A$AP Rocky hosted the Samsung LEVEL Music Lab at the University of Nevada Las Vegas on December 2. The Samsung LEVEL Music Lab is touring colleges nationwide as it seeks to bring industry experts to inspire college students and give them practical tips for their work.

“I was really excited and happy to be there in all honesty,” A$AP Rocky says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “It’s really good when you get time to talk to the youth.”

The UNLV event began with a question and answer session with the students, moderated by Rory Kramer, Justin Bieber’s videographer. During the discussion, the Harlem, New York rapper detailed his own influences and the dynamics of the A$AP Mob as well as his interest in fashion.

“I taught students to use the more independent side of consciousness – to be individual thinkers and think for themselves and most of all be themselves,” he says. “I hope they left with that.”

After the question and answer session, A$AP Rocky met one-on-one with a few students during “office hours.” He even took one of the students to shop at Barney’s.

A$AP Rocky explained to the crowd that “I’m still a student like y’all, ’cause life is a learning experience. He expands on this idea to HipHopDX.

“Ton of people have acted as mentors to me in my life – relatives, friends, and some celebrities etcetera etcetera,” he says. “I would say I learned a lot from the people who I am close with now – and anyone who I am working with, most of the time, I learn a lot from.  Younger.  Older.  It doesn’t matter.  Wisdom comes from all colors, shapes and sizes.”
