A$AP Ferg says he felt he “lost the physical being of Yams” before his death.
A$AP Mob lyricist A$AP Ferg spoke with Hot 97 personality Nessa about a variety of topics, during a newly-released interview. He spoke on the late A$AP Yams and feeling as if he lost his friend before he passed away in January of this year.
“I just felt like we got to the point where I felt like I lost the physical being of Yams,” A$AP Ferg said. “We lost that spirit and it’s due to a bunch of outside substances. He just wasn’t himself anymore. It was just certain people that I knew wasn’t good for him. I just didn’t want to be around those guys. And I didn’t want him to be around them people. But you know, Yams is a grown man and you got money, you can fly anywhere. One day, he’s in the Bronx. The next, he’s in London. I go to London ‘Oh, he’s in L.A.’ So, you can’t—That’s Yams. He gonna do what he do.”
Prior to speaking on Yams, Ferg shared a handful of details about his upcoming album, Always Strive And Prosper. He promised fans that the album will be out “very, very soon,” and later revealed that the project will include features from Future, Missy Elliot, ScHoolboy Q, Chris Brown, Rick Ross, and more.

Ferg later touched on the personal nature of the album, which he says will showcase his rags to riches story.
“This album is gonna have a lot of songs like that where I’m just basically giving all of myself and not holding back,” he said. “The story about my grandmother or Psycho [A$AP Ferg’s uncle] and his trials and tribulations. It’s like really home-based and it’s my rags to riches story.”
