Lupe Fiasco Responds To Grammy Snub With Humor

Although the likes of J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and Drake were nominated for Grammy Awards, one artist in particular was left off of the nominees list. Lupe Fiasco, who released his Tetsuo & Youth album in January of this year, didn’t receive any Grammy nominations for the album.

The rapper responded to the news with a handful of messages on Twitter, yesterday (December 7).

“The only award I ever really cared about was the Grammy…everything I put was nominated. Until today. End Of An Era. Lemme hold that—-> L,” Lupe said in one tweet, shortly after the list of nominees was released.

Lupe also posted a handful of pictures with Sesame Street characters pictured next to the letter “L.”

Following its release at the top of this year, Tetsuo & Youth received a welcome reception from both critics and Hip Hop fans.

The album received a 4.5 out of 5 rating on HipHopDX, and was described as being “a beautiful block of metaphor.”

Lupe’s tweets can be found below.

    1. Yea that’s an interesting fact that all of Lupe’s albums have been nominated except this, especially considering that this is arguably his best album after the cool…just goes to show the people that choose these nominations don’t actually listen to the music and just base it off of hype, at least in the hip hop category. Kendrick deserves to be there tho. Take off Niki Minaj and put on Lupe and we’re good

    2. why do these idiots worry so much about getting a grammy..?? I remember a time when rappers didn’t even care about grammys , now everyone wants one.. and by the way Kendrick’s last album had horrible beats

      1. Horrible beats how? Those beats are on another level. I guess to you, if there’s no 808s or trap in it, it’s trash. SMH backwards thinking.

      2. STFU, many Kendrick fans, myself included prefer some of his earlier work like Section 8. Just because we don’t feel TPAB as much, doesn’t mean we like trap music. Also Lupe’s album should have been nominated, it’s a much stronger lyrical and conceptual album.

      3. You sound like a hipster bitch turning on an artist when they achieve mainstream success. TPAB is just as good as GKMC and better than Section 80. Don’t speak for anyone else besides yourself.

      4. You sound like the White hipster publications that ignored Section 8 and started hailing Kendrick as the God of rap after GKMC. How the fuck am I turning on Kendrick when I admitted to being a fan? Because I’m not a delusional groupie. GKMC and TPAB are great albums, but personally I think Tetsuo and Youth is better than TPAB.

      5. So you’re also a fan. My bad. My first comment was aimed at OP when he dissed the beats on TPAB. I’ve actually been a fan of Kendrick since Overly Dedicated. I also like Tetsuo & Youth and I think it’s on the same level as TPAB. They’re both great albums.

    3. Why you mad Lupe? I thought rappers hated the white man. If you a real rapper you shouldn’t care about Grammy’s. Keep it real stay street and keep it street. Rappers with Grammys are sell outs. Be real

    4. Drake’s Mixtape/Mix CD whatever you want to call it shouldn’t be able to qualify for a grammy nomination unless they are going to start doing that for all mixtapes. In that Case Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment’s Surf album should’ve been in here somewhere or Big K.R.I.T’s last mixtape, but I do feel he deserves a grammy nomination for T&Y.

    5. Lupe is an incredible lyricist and he made an incredible album, I just think that he is way too clever for many listeners. Unfortunately, he won’t really be appreciated until he stops making music…. SMH

    6. Why do people care so much about the Grammys? The nominees are chosen by people in the industry, not the fans who actually purchase the music. So why should we care?

      1. I understand where you are coming from but in any industry you want to be recognized by a group of your peers. The fans and the consumers are great but

If you a great scientist you want to be recognized by the scientific community, you a great marketer you want to be recognized by other marketers. Great CEO, you want the acknowledgement from J.D. Power, Business Insider, Forbes, and other CEO’s. If you a football coach, you want to know that other coaches respect you and what you bring to the table. The Grammy’s is the most respected and prestigious award in the Music Industry.

    7. He put out a great album……that had no radio play, videos, barely a whisper. grammys care about jazz and obsure rock bands more that rap thats sorta kind of under the radar. he had no chance. lol @ Pinkprint being there but not him

    8. It was kinda disappointing not to see him get nominated. I thought he had a chance because he’s still a familiar name to the Grammy committee.

    9. KDot, Krit, Lupe, and Cole embody hip hip in my opinion. But Cole and Kendrick have too many dickriders consigning everything they put they name on. But that don’t mean they still aren’t deserving. Lupe’s Tetsuo and Youth should’ve been nominated. It’s just the better album, better word play and has more replay value to me. It should been Krit, Lupe, Cole, Kendrick, and Donnie Trumpet nominated for rap album. I’d even give Joey Bada$$- B4 Da$$ and honorable mention. The Grammy’s suck.

    10. Like somebody said below, Tetsuo and Youth is a Masterpiece and TPAB is a close second of album of the year. Fuck the Grammys they never gave a fuck about Hip Hop and they never gave KRS-One a Grammy.

    11. If I’m being honesthonest it should’ve been
      Cole
      Kendrick
      Lupe
      Big Sean
      Wale

With Krit being the last guy out.

But that’s not how any of this works.

Aye but Adele should win every category lol

    12. I WAS a huge Lupe fan because of his first two albums which are classics. I ain’t listen to Lasers or F&L2 tbh other than words I never said which was my fuckin jam.. But I listened to Tetsuo & Youth the other day and I HATED it. Lupe did go weird I mean i can only think any heads callin that a classic are fanboys cos all I was hearing was a man trying way too hard to sound smart as in it was nothing but overly & unnecessarily complicated rhymes I mean GOD DAMN slow it the fuck down and get to the point Lupe I don’t wanna rewind the shit a million times to try and decipher what the fuck it is you’re trying to say! It’s not enjoyable!

      1. ARE YOU RETARDED, that album was the most lyrical thing I have ever heard, you probably started mural and stopped playing it cuz you couldn’t understand what he was trying to say. I don’t know what you listened to but t & y was his best album ever.
