Kid Capri is scheduled to host a private screening for the Give It Up For The DJ! documentary Monday (November 30).

The film, which is written and directed by Derrick Pridgen, “explores the central, yet critically marginalized role that DJs have played in shaping the music industry over the past 50 years, by following the opinions and life experiences of some of the most recognized names in the business,” according to a press release. “Through a series of interviews conducted with music historians, music executives, and the disc jockeys themselves, Give It Up for the DJ! asks what a DJ does to pump up a song, bring life to a party, kill or save a record, and change the course of music history.”

Throughout the documentary’s trailer, various cultural personalities offer their take on why it’s important to “give it up for the deejay.”

“My definition of a deejay is like being a Pied Piper,” Kool DJ Red Alert says. “You play the right tunes, the crowd will follow.”

“Because you’ve never gone to a party and danced to a rapper,” DJ Jazzy Jeff says, “and that’s exactly why you need to give it up for the deejay.”
