Saúl “Canelo” Alvarez defeated Miguel Cotto in a unanimous decision yesterday (November 21) for the middleweight world championship.

Canelo won the 12-round bout by the judges’ scores of 119-109, 118-110 and 117-111.

Jay Z and Beyonce were in attendance for the match, held at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

According to boxing reporter Andreas Hale, Jay Z spoke with Cotto after the fight. Cotto joined Roc Nation Sports in March.

“You fought a great fight, man,” the rapper and sports agent told his client.

The fight was sponsored by Roc Nation Sports, Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, and the forthcoming movie Creed.

Jay Z and De La Hoya bet each other $100,000 on the match, according to a press release. Per the agreement, Jay Z will donate $100,000 to De La Hoya’s charity of choice, the cancer unit at White Memorial Medical Center.

Another Roc Nation boxer, Guillermo Rigondeaux, won his fight on the undercard, defeating Drian Francisco by unanimous decision.
