In addition to premiering their new lyric video for “Microphone Preem” on Genius, those in PRhyme and Slaughterhouse offered annotations for their lyrical contributions to the record, which is produced by DJ Premier.

With the opening verse on “Microphone Preem,” KXNG Crooked was the first to offer insight into his verse on the song. In his annotation, the Long Beach, California lyricist spoke on wanting to bring his “A-game” to the record.

“I’m trying to come in with a stinger for my opening line,” KXNG Crooked wrote in his annotation. “With the Slaughters in the building, we just always try to bring our A-game, because on any given Sunday you could get your hat handed to you. It ain’t nothing you could do about it. People always ask if we rewrite, not really. If Royce is in the zone you can rewrite all you want and still won’t catch what zone he’s in. All of us take this lyricism shit seriously. Come in stinging and bring your A-game.”

In his annotation, Joell Ortiz recalled the first ever Slaughterhouse recording session. He revealed that although he had no idea the four emcees would go on to form a group, he knew it wouldn’t be their last time working together.

“The original SlaughterHouse session was fun! Four of the illest MCs in one room writing rhymes and being competitive. The pressure was on! We had no clue we’d be a group, but I think we all knew that it was the first, but wouldn’t be the last time we worked together. And now here we are,” Joell Ortiz wrote.

Lastly, KXNG Crooked offered his thoughts on Joe Budden’s verse, which serves as the last verse on “Microphone Preem.”

“I think it was Royce’s idea to set it up in the spirit of a ‘Microphone,’ part 2,” Crooked wrote. “I think I just brought that line back from the original. If I remember correctly, Royce was like, ‘That’s dope. I think everybody should bring a line back too.’”
