On Tuesday over at B.B. King’s in New York, there was a whole lot of healing going on in the hood. Numerous rappers joined forces for a righteous cause. The cause was to raise proceeds for those who became a victim of Hurricane Katrina almost a month ago. As a number of artists such as dead prez, David Banner, Memphis Bleek, Saigon, Styles P, Q-Tip, Remy Ma, Smif N Wessun and The Beatnuts rocked the crowd, there was a certain comedian who popped in.
Dave Chappelle made a brief appearance just to let people know that the victims of Hurricane Katrina needed them…
“I just want to tell you guys real quick: I got back from Mississippi today. All these images you see on the news — don’t let it desensitize you. Things are real. These people are real. Don’t forget why we are here. We love the music, but we love these people. Don’t forget them, because they’re gonna be suffering for a long time unless you do something.”
While a number of artists made surprise appearances, Chappelle shocked many by showing up. The evening was a bright spot in the past month’s tragic happenings. Many of the artists were enthralled to be in each other’s company and for a good cause even. All proceeds from the event when to those victimized by the disaster.
