Inglewood, California rapper Casey Veggies recently offered some insight into a handful of his songs as he offered commentary on his lyrics on the lyric website, Genius.

While speaking on his “Wonderful” record, which also features Ty Dolla $ign, Casey revealed that the song was Jay Z’s favorite from his upcoming album, Live & Grow. As an artist managed by Roc Nation, he recalled meeting Jay at his office, and being surprised when the Brooklyn, New York wordsmith listened to his debut album in its entirety.

“I’ve been managed by Roc Nation for about two or three years now but never met Jay,” Casey Veggies wrote. “We both were in the office recently and he listened to my whole album. I thought he would be like “Alright, play a few, and then I have to go to a meeting.” But he listened to the whole thing. An hour and a half. He said “Wonderful” was his favorite song.”

Casey also shared some insight into the IamSu!-produced “Backflip” in his Genius annotations. Before speaking on the importance of the record for those from the West, he applauded IamSu! for the work he’s put in for The Bay.

“I have known about IamSu! for a minute, but it took me some time to really just embrace what he does for the bay and that culture,” he wrote. “I appreciate that I was able to get in the studio with him. We are all from the west. The sounds are not that different, the cultures are not that different, so this record is something that stands for that. It stands for LA to the Bay. It stands for young kids with ambition that are building a movement. That’s why I feel like “Backflip is more important to me than what some people might perceive it as.”

Other records Casey Veggies provided annotations for on Genius were “Tied Up” and “The Boy.” His Live & Grow album is scheduled for release on September 25.
