Rick Ross Details Maybach Music Group’s Recent Success

Maybach Music Group has been one of Hip Hop’s most consistent major labels over the past decade with numerous artists releasing #1 albums in the process.

Recently speaking with HipHopDX’s Victoria Hernandez at the BMI R&B and Hip Hop Awards, the label’s head, Rick Ross–who released his Black Dollar mixtape earlier today–explained why he believes his imprint has had success.

“I think the diversity itself is what sets us apart as a label,” he said via a segment of today’s (September 3) DX Daily. “When you think of Stalley, when you think of Omarion just having a number 1 record. Meek Mill having a monstrous new album, Wale, another number one and of course the Boss.”

The Miami rapper also explained why Gunplay releasing his solo debut LP, Living Legend was really big for both artists.

“Gunplay just releasing his first solo album. I think that’s real big and that’s something special for me,” he said. “I’m extremely proud. It’s just the first of many things to come.”

    1. 1.When you think of Stalley (who?)
2.when you think of Omarion just having a number 1 record. (when did he go no.1?)
3.Meek Mill having a monstrous new album, (Not really and it only got to no.1 thanks to nicki minaj
      4. Wale, another number one (Dr dre, not even no.1, outsold both him and meek mill
      5. and of course the Boss. (Dre’s the boss, not ross’s weak ass)

      1. Quit your hating. Stalley did very well, omarion’s post to be went no.1 on rythmic charts, meek mill IS doing extremely well, wale is doing terrific numbers for his third album, and Ross has 5 no.1 albums. Dre can never claim to have just one.

      2. It’s not hate when it’s facts. Stalley did horribly, Omarion did not have a number one single, Meek Mill is not doing well, neither is Wale, and Ross never sold platinum, which is something Dre can claim, along with his new album selling more than all of MMG in the first week.

      3. Stalley did fine for his debut, Post to be was no.1 on rythmic charts (its a no.1 single like ross said), Meek went no.1, and wale went no.1. Dre, the pop star, can never claim to be no.1. Ironic thing is that today it should be easier than ever to be no.1 yet dre failed.

      4. Stalley did horribly for his debut, Post To Be never went to number one at all (Ross lied again), Meek Mill and Wale still got outsold by Dr Dre, who is a hip-hop star, not a pop star. Having a number one album is meaningless thanks to music sales being lower.

      5. 1. Stalley did well 2. Post to be went to no.1 on rythmic charts. It counts. 3. Dr Dre flopped while the other 2 succeeded.

      6. 1. Stalley flopped, barely selling 15K. 2. Post To Be never went to number one at all. 3. Dre’s album sold 300K 1st week, that’s more than anyone at MMG had ever sold. If anything, Dre succeeded while MMG flopped.

      7. Changing the subject because you have nothing else? Typical. Besides, Janet Jackson’s single is doing better than any single from Ross. It’s Ross who’s flopping.

      8. Song still made the charts while none of Ross’ songs are nowhere to be seen. Also, there is no weak platinum, just platinum. You’re trying to make selling a million look like a failure when it’s a success. Your comments have no logic.

      9. No, it didn’t. The people who made the allegations against Michael admitted that they made it up and did it for the money. Michael is innocent.

      10. That means you have nothing. Just give up on the trolling. All it is is just a waste of your’s and everyone else’s time.

      11. * O went Platinum with #1 single ” Post to be ” this year
        * Wale did 100k first week and his album was #1
        * Meek did 216k first week and his album was #1 not one week but two and will be Gold before the year is out based on sales trends.

        * Dre did 290 first week but being real it’s been over 10 years. This was highly anticipated! He was supposed to do more! It’s almost a flop with him being Dr. Dre!

        That’s facts!

Don’t have to like MMG but this a solid year for any hip hop label!

      12. Nothing you said was fact. Post To Be never went to number one and Meek and Wale still ain’t sold gold. Dre did not flop at all. MMG are struggling.

    2. Post to be did go #1 on Top Hip Hop/R&B that’s not a lot that’s facts! And it’s certified platinum! So may not be a success to you but I bet Atlantic/WB/MMG execs think differently based on their return!

And two #1 albums with Wale (100k first week) and Meek (216k first week) who held the crown for two weeks is hardly flops not to mention sales trends say Meek will be Gold before the year is out!

That’s a succesful year for any hip hop label!

      1. he didn’t even charted if he was to sale 3k he would be somewhere in 180-200

I feel sorry for troy’s L but he is a good rapper and he did 7k

    3. Big bawse dawn Ross doing things. While g unit wither away, 50 cent has any1 seen r heard anything missing for 10 years now

    4. Suck-cess?! The biggest FRAUD in Hip Hop history William ‘Officer Ricky -the Fake Rick Ross’ Roberts, & his cast of LOSERS, ‘meek rappers’ are DONE! Officer Ricky’s ‘new’ (same sh*t he’s peddled for years…) album will bomb! (steadingly declining sales…)…… these MAYCOCK clowns have killed Hip Hop, & the sooner they go back to prison or let REAL ARTISTS shine, the better! GTFOH…..

    5. Rick Ross is a successful entertainer. That’s what he’s in the game for and that’s what he has accomplished. He has enjoyed more than moderate success as a businessman and artist. He supplied the demand and is now getting out of the way. On to the next one. Every smart rapper tries to make the transition from rapper to mogul. No one is hot forever. It’s always a grab up whatever you can before time runs out type of situation. He survived several potentially career ending occurrences and continues to have success. Hell of a wave for Ross. Salute to the “fat boy” from Florida that made it out and helped feed a lot of families in the process . Can never hate that.

    6. Mmg is on the decline*the bawse still has trouble goin gold*putting out sub par material*meanwhile his artist meekie took a massive L*tht he won’t recover from*gunplay bombed*wale always crying*stalley cool but is on the wrong label*Omarion had a hit for the 1st time in how long?will he transition tht #1 into a solid album tht does numbers?long live the 80s & 90s*
