Michel’le recently recalled Dr. Dre’s emotions around the time Ice Cube left N.W.A in 1989 due to contract disputes with manager Jerry Heller.
“I think that was more an emotional time for [Dr.] Dre because he was just telling him, ‘Just stay, it’s gon’ be ok. We gon’ figure it out. We all gon’ make it, we gon’ get there,’” Michel’le says during a newly published interview with VladTV. “But I just think he had his own reasons, whatever they are because I don’t know, I just know it was about money, of course, it was about the attorney, not having anybody fight for our side. He came, he voiced his opinion and Dre just said, ‘Hold tight,’ but he just didn’t. And he had every right to… He probably wanted a bigger piece of the pie. When you figure, ‘Hey, I’m writing all this stuff’ and of course, he had every right.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Michel’le noted that Dr. Dre wasn’t angered by Ice Cube’s decision to leave the group. The singer says that she believes he was more so upset as they had came up in music together and to see him leave was hurtful.
“Dre’s motto always was, ‘Success is the best revenge.’ I don’t think I saw him get really angry about it. I think it hurt, to be honest with you. I really think it hurt him because they started out together and they were friends… Dre didn’t take it in a negative way, he just figured, ‘Well, you go do your thing and I’ma do my thing.’ And as they are still to this day, they’re still doing their thing.”
