Dr. Dre Issues Statement Regarding Assaults Against Women

Dr. Dre addresses the multiple allegations that he has physically abused women in a statement to The New York Times that was released today (August 21).

“Twenty-five years ago I was a young man drinking too much and in over my head with no real structure in my life,” the Aftermath label boss writes. “However, none of this is an excuse for what I did. I’ve been married for 19 years and every day I’m working to be a better man for my family, seeking guidance along the way. I’m doing everything I can so I never resemble that man again.”

Dr. Dre doesn’t name specific victims in his statement, but makes a general apology.

“I apologize to the women I’ve hurt,” he continues. “I deeply regret what I did and know that it has forever impacted all of our lives.”

Apple also makes a statement to The New York Times. Dre has worked with Apple since May 2014, which is when Apple bought the Beats company Dr. Dre co-founded.

“Dre has apologized for the mistakes he’s made in the past and he’s said that he’s not the same person that he was 25 years ago,” the Apple statement reads. “We believe his sincerity and after working with him for a year and a half, we have every reason to believe that he has changed.”

Tairrie B, Dee Barnes & Michel’le Discuss Dr. Dre

Tairrie B, Dee Barnes and Michel’le also describe the decision to open up about their stories.

Tairrie B reached out to Barnes via Facebook to share their experiences.

“The initial conversation was like group therapy, to heal our wounds,” Barnes says.

Tairrie B says that she wishes she would have addressed the situation where Dr. Dre allegedly punched her at a Grammy party in 1990.

“I had a lot of guilt,” she says about not pressing charges. “Had I pressed charges, he would have had a strike against him. And maybe Michel’le would have stood up, too. Maybe it would have made him think.”

Michel’le has also spoke about being beaten by Dr. Dre and why she was not portrayed in the movie.

“They told their story,” she says. “I’m telling mine.”

Dr. Dre also addressed the multiple allegations earlier this month during an interview with Rolling Stone. “I made some fucking horrible mistakes in my life,” he said at the time.

    1. I love DR DRE but ppl need to SHUT UP!!!! this was 30 years ago.. HE did the time with the settlement.. community service.. etc etc… hes in his 50s now and knows better… ppl need to leave this shit alone.. NOW if he did this last week i understand.. but this is OLD

      1. That’s apart of his history. Can’t sweep things under the rug because it was 25-30 years ago. There’s no statue of limitations. I’m glad he has addressed it and it would appear he’s never forgot his past which is good so he will never repeat it again. Things are so much different back then compared to now. Good on you Dre, your not going to be able to please everyone but admitting your past and moving to the future is a step in the right direction.

      2. He’s obviously changed from those incidents since he’s not doing it anymore. Plus, who needs a numberone album when you can go platinum or more?

      3. it is old when 2001 came out michelle le and dee barnes said nothing
now the movie is out and they are omitted they want some press.
jay-z punched a chick during an interview who was trying to get a picture
i wonder how ppl feel about him all these years later.
not excusing dre but people change with time
most bloggers act like they never did anything they regret while they typing
but are fully aware that while they post comments no one will ever know their dirt because they are not famous enough for people to even know them let alone care.

    2. This nigga always ran his mouth about how tough he was. Yet he was too much of a pussy to fight Eazy, Suge, Jerry Heller, or Ice Cube back in the day and he sucker punched and bodyslamed women. That’s the epitome of a bitch nigga. There’s no other way to call it. Plus he wore tight sequenced jump suits and makeup in the mid-80’s. I understand that Prince and Rick James popularized that look, but there were clearly other options during the 80’s. You didn’t see Cube, Chuck D, the Beastie Boys or Rakim doing that. Alcohol doesn’t make someone a homo ass bitch nigga.

      1. How would you know that, Danny boy? It’s been well-documented that Jerry Heller was a scumbag mismanaging their money. It’s not greed when they’re not compensated properly.

      2. Jerry was one of the few whites that treated nwa with respect, he wasn’t the racist you are making him out to be.

      3. So nigga, your ass is also half….May be ripped by some thug fucking…ha!Andre apologized for his shit.Who the fuck are you to criticize him?Even Jay-Z is a murderer,Kanye West was a shop lifter and also beat up some camera men,his wife’s Kim is a huge ass used cunt who duped two men…no one is without a shitty mistake.O wait…maybe your dick got stiff by hearing those barnes shit…that you want to fuck her…

      4. You raise a very good point. Dre had countless opportunities to be physically violent towards men that he felt were insulting him, but he chose to sucker punch women instead. That’s what makes it weird. This wasn’t an anger or alcohol issue, he hated women. This apology does sound much better though. So I’mma let it go. It’s bizzare seeing so many men defend these actions or write them off as mistakes. Hunting down women to puch them in the face repeatedly is not a mistake. It’s a problem. It does seem like he has dealt with or is addressing his problem. Also this Johnson guy who posted comes across as a moron. Learn how to construct sentences buddy.

      5. I’m going to sucker punch and bodyslam Dre’s daughter and ensure she has black eyes and broken bones, then I’m going to tell Dre “Hey man, it was just a mistake, I was immature and I was drinking, you know how that shit goes my nigga”. See how stupid that sounds?

      6. You just kissed a bitch and nothing more and she returns 20 years later, she comes back and falsely accuses you of molesting her, impregnating her with your baby and abusing her.Now she robs you of your wealth, your cars and that cocky, bitchy attitude of yours using cops and lawyers. How dope it would be….

      7. Nope. I wouldn’t ever do that because unlike Dr. Dre I’m not a homo ass bitch nigga. Beating up women ain’t my thing.

    3. I don’t understand why does dre have to apologize for everything.Without dre, some of the greatest production skills would have never happened. He is a remaining part of the revolution that changed hip hop…along with the likes of Ice Cube,Snoop….it’s quite shocking that today people focus on your past rather than skills and charity.Dre was not born on a golden throne.Violence, drugs, guns, gangs was what he saw.To say, people make mistakes. And moreover dee barnes was not a good, innocent women who was taking her kids to school when she was beaten up.She provoked dre so terribly about his past that he lost control. It was equivalent to the usage of a racial slur against some ethnicity. All people who are white knighting for some women should also know that things are never one sided but two sided. So fuckers like @dan white knighting for some unknown woman should learn to match with status of dre as a hip hop mogul, and then go and speak bullshit.

      1. You’re focusing on his past too, ya dingus. You’re just trying to focus on the “positive” aspects. Then you call out people for white knighting yet you’re here white knighting for a billionaire who couldn’t care less about you.

      2. @Prick James you are nothing but a pretentious prick and an ignorant one.Just go and check what white knight means.A man protecting a woman like a noble warrior…only to be kicked on his ass later on by a woman(21st century definition).I support dre fully knowing that he doesn’t care about me.Yet his music and his rags to riches story gives me some motivation. However people giving excuse for dee barnes are nothing but brainwashed creatures by leftist media ,who in the future will only complain rather than standing up on their own.

      3. Greg you’re an idiot. From dictionary.com: noun 1. a hero who comes to the rescue. 2. a beleaguered champion who fights heroically for a cause, as in politics. 3. Informal. a company that comes to the rescue of another, as to prevent a takeover. What you’re using is a colloquialism, you will find your definition of it on urban dictionary.

    4. Always trying to put a person down…he did that over 20 years ago…why now everyone has to stress about that…the bitches wish it was now because they would have sued and made money of him…fuck these bitches. . I’m with dre all the way…I’m slept my girlfriend in 1998 I was almost expelled from school but I learnt from my mistake I’m happily married with 3 kids. ..so fuck these bitches who always dwelling on another man’s past …Michelle is right though it’s their story did she expect to be in nwa story she is just salty. ..fuck her fuck solange Knowles fuck Rihanna too and Rick ross baby momma

      1. Without jerry, they wouldn’t be shit in terms of sales. He deserved better than him being backstabbed. Same with birdman.

      2. NWA was gonna sell regardless. They didn’t backstab Jerry, he backstabed them. And Birdman is the biggest backstabber in music.

      3. You know it hurts people more than you think when you accuse them of screwing people over. The accusations about salivadar mismanage ngry selena money drove her insane and caused her to murder selena.

      4. Then they shouldn’t be screwing people over. It hurts more when you’re not paid properly for your work. What does Selena being murdered by a psychopathic bitch have to do with NWA?

      5. Accusing people of mismanagement can drive people insane. That’s why you should stop accusing people like jerry heller. Salivadar felt backstabbed. Murder is wrong but salivadar was driven insane

      6. No, it doesn’t. Jerry isn’t gonna be affected by people saying that he screwed NWA over. Salivadar had an unhealthy obsession with Selena, she was already insane. She’s still a murdering scumbag.

    5. @Beats by Dre…Before teaching me how to construct sentences, just plainly admit that you’re nothing but a pussyslave. No one is defending Dre…yet when the whole narrative of the movie,Dre’s work and his contribution to hip-hop is being swept under the rug because of some mistake he made in his life,it becomes painfully annoying. It’s because of men like you that women have become irresponsible…where was your big mouth when solange Knowles assaulted Jay-Z,where were you when Jay-Z stabbed Lance Riviera….I know because it would not fit your innocent, delicate women and brutal man narrative.Rather than teaching me grammar, teach your moronic mind to implement logic…..or you that half ass apology nigga just trolling? No woman will return you a kiss on your ass or a sexual favour just because you’re putting them on a pedestal….so get lost with your wack ass mouth…..And kindly go into dee barnes’s history…Dre did not witch hunt women…ironically I see many useless women witch-hunting men for money and countless lawsuits.

      1. I’m a woman! Most self-respecting women don’t want to be put on pedestals, we want to be treated as equals. The notion that women want to be put on pedestals and the notion that women should be subservient to men are both male creations, and are frankly two sides of the same f’d up unequal coin. Both justify degradation when we don’t comply with male wishes. Unfortunately many women subscribe to these notions, particularly the pedestal thing, because they see it as better than the alternative. They’re both messed up though.

    6. He doesn’t seem to fully comprehend the permanent damage he inflicted on these women. He cost them their careers by ensuring no one would deal with them. He continued to humiliate them every chance he got by talking about it to the media. His lawyers must have told him shut up so he changed his tune and claimed it didn’t even happen. He got a slap on the wrist and didn’t pay enough to compensate these women for their lost earnings and permanent health issues associated with his beatdowns. Let’s not forget there was one guy trying to stop the Dee Barnes beatdown and Dre’s guard pistol whipped him in the face. This ensured that no one got in the way of the future beatdowns. Now after a fury of press about his past, he claims to be a “changed” man. He didn’t name any of the women…were there too many to list? Just because he got rich doesn’t make him a better man. He is now more careful because he doesn’t want to lose his money. He is still covering for himself now with his half hearted apology on The Times. Its not genuine if it doesn’t come from the heart. I am sure he would never want a guy to do this to his daughter. Apple is sick to even excuse him for this type of behavior. I feel their attitude is “It’s so long ago…let’s move along from this bad press.” Would Apple or anyone else excuse a child beating mother if she claimed it was a long time ago and she is changed woman? Probably not and rightfully so. This is because the effects of abuse last a lifetime. How about donating a portion of the Beats and NWA proceeds to the prevention of domestic violence? He could personally reach out to the women he has destroyed. That isn’t going to happen because that would actally entail doing the right thing.

      1. Last sentence should read:

That isn’t going to happen because that would actually entail doing the right thing.

      2. Oh shut the fuck up you feminist cunt….This shit happened 25 fuckin years ago….what do you want from him? What do the want from him? Why speak up now when he has this movie doing great? Oh thats the answer…because he’s doing great….and these chicks are still miserable.

      3. Admission is the first step to recovery. He apologized for what he did, wat more do you want, you unforgiving bitch?

      4. The responses of these men are disgusting. Quite similar to White people after an unarmed Black man gets shot 5 to 50 times by police officers. Just replace “bitch” with “thug”. It’s the same name calling, they deserved it, if they stopped behaving like this, it was an unfortunate mistake garbage. Yawn.

      5. Well said! Those women did the courageous act to get their stories out there. We need to stand behind that and uplift the conversation that needs to be had in our communities.

      6. 25 years later michell le wants to talk now….dee barnes wants to tell her story now????
apparently dee barnes own self worth has a dollar sign attached to it(settlement)
michelle le can actually sing dre didn’t stop her career she did.
after dre hit her one time she should have left his ass, but she chose otherwise and now she is an annoying ass diva on reality tv…i dont know if his apology was insincere or not
because i cant speak for him( or what he is feeling ), but other than dee barnes no one filed a police report. so if we wont let dre charge it to his youth and etc. i wont give michelle le a pass either for staying ( no double standard ).
lastly, when a woman hits another woman lets all go in on her like everyone is doing dre cause some women will swing on a man or woman and then expect not to get hit back playing the victim. dre been married 19 years and no issues we know of so all i can say is i wish him the best with much success, he’s not my role model but i can learn from his story good and bad.

    7. Apple released a statement: “Dr. Dre has made us a shyt-ton of money in the last year and a half, so we will wait a few years before we Cosby his azz with this woman-beating stuff.”

    8. Death to all you feminist cunts hatin on a playa. Get beat in a DV situation and lets see you run your mouth after that. Bitches. And if you reply, your mother is going to die.

      1. You mean the same guy that conned a woman out of 32,000 with an online dating scam while Dr Dre was making business decisions. Yeah, real stand up guy there. Super gangsta

    9. These women act like they war veterans like they saw combat foh when a woman fights another woman and they get slapped do they suffer for the rest of they lives? Are they 25 years later healing they wounds ? Oh i get it its only when a millionaire does it

    10. @Beats by Dre I am not a gay ass like your father who will come and save dre.I am no hero.Dre is a hero himself. So rather than just trolling on the page and calling people idiots, why not do something heroic? You must be a woman.Woman whine and complain rather than being competent.Go,law is on your side.Media is on your side.Spot any innocent man on the street and sue him for few million dollars just because he is heterosexual, popular, had lots of money or your snowflake mind was triggered.Don’t worry, you’ll win the case.So stop bitching and at least do some hard work like suing an innocent man.

      1. Ha. I’m in law school. I’ve worked hard to get where I’m at and I’m extremely competent. Women now outnumber men in terms of university enrollment, and they drop out less. With the gap being more pronounced in communities of color. Particularly in the Black community, because a lot of niggas can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Women tend to be much more educated on average. How many dumb men get caught up in a life of crime and abandon their families and leave women to raise their kids? How heroic is that? That’s spineless. So please don’t patronize me about competence, when in terms of education, raising families and keeping communities entact, women are more than pulling their weight.

      2. @Beats….law and life are two different things though. The flaw in your argument is the very system’s law you’re perpetuating plays a major role in these dysfunctional families. The decades long cries of inequality and injustice come from intelligence and experience so be careful walking that line, for you may be destroying upholding your oath, which isn’t a faith nor a culture. Peace.

      3. @Casino While I appreciate your tasteful post, very much actually, because it’s one of the few intelligent and respectful ones, you aren’t exactly critiquing my thesis statement. You’re in part questioning my career path. The hope is to be an immigration lawyer. I don’t see how reuniting families and helping people cut through the government bureaucracy is perptuating the destruction of families. Yes, the system is messed up, agreed. Many men here are bashing women saying that they don’t work hard, are out to take money from men, they are not competent, they are bitches hoes and golddiggers. My counterpoint to that and the crux of my argument is that by many statistical indicators Black men fuck up more, in part because they are more likely to try to take shortcuts to wealth–they are incarcerated more, their life expectancy is a hell of a lot lower, they are less educated from high school through PhD compared to Black women, and not surprisingly they have a higher unemployment rate. My point is there are plenty of men mooching off of the work of women. Goes both ways, so all of ignorant dudes in here need to get a clue.

    11. Dan shut the hell up you dont need a number one to sell records. dr. dre has sold over 400 million albums as a executive producer. his last album debut at number 2 and sold ten million worldwide and seven mill in the states. he is a grammy award winning artist and producer.

    12. The fact that he issued this.statement brought back all of respect for him. He has A LOT to lose, more than 50 rappers combined, and more than just tangible losses, just like Bill Cosby he could have lost his credibility and his legacy. He was real and honest, knowing he had a lot to lose, when using his power and connections he could have easily downplayed the allegations and said he didn’t do anything even close and portrayed the women as people who just want fame or money from him. He chose to address it, and that is some real shit coming from an industry where the ultra rich often come across scenarios where their money does indeed talk. He was correct in not apologising to anyone specific because had he done that, more and more women would have come forward to get a piece of him. He spoke about events happening more than a decade past, which I believe these women should have either addressed the incidents then and there or not bring them up at all especially that much years later. It’s like someone coming out and saying the names of people who bullied and beat their asses 25 years ago, but these women want pity, wealth, and I don’t know what…. I mean they obviously know they aren’t getting anything from him, and it only makes an alpha female look weak and vulnerable by people hearing this knowledge, it is not to their benefit.

    13. Beyonce as an example or Mary J Blige wouldn’t come forward and speak about being beat up 20 years after it happens. It makes their strong alpha female characters be drawn to feelings of pity, and they wouldn’t do it, they know karma is a.Bitch, and that’s why they are so much better off than their past exes, whoever. The case with Rihanna was done right. She is an alpha female but she got beat, there was proof, and she addressed it WHEN it happened, that’s the key. And then to look even stronger she didn’t press charges, she acknowledged it, and went forward looking stronger then ever, while dealing out a huge loss to Chris Brown, which if he wasn’t Chris Brown would have TOTALLY KILLED HIS CAREER. He definitely got what was coming to him, and Rihanna benefited from pressing no charges, only made her look stronger more dominant then ever. I think domestic violence is very wrong, but regular domestic violence needs.to be swiftly dealt.with, some.of the victim women are too scared because psychologically they perceive their in more danger than they think, when they have to act.. In the industry, domestic violence isn’t the same thing for many reasons, and whoever.the aggressor is the moment its.confirmed their done, unless you are Chris Brown….then you are slowly tortured and a shadow of what you were

    14. @Beats by Dre I know it’s easy for you to speak bullshit.Workplace environments are now being manipulated to accommodate more women, trannies and gays through various quotas. The university exams are now designed to cater to women so that they feel are much ahead of men.Talents don’t matter nowadays.Only leftist propaganda matters.Men are rarely doctors or engineers because talent doesn’t matter and they are born as men. They are forced to go into hip-hop or sports or worse, drugs, violence or gangstas.I completed my medical degree M.D and is pursuing for a higher degree and I know the partiality men have to face in universities. All those sick gay ass propaganda and tranny/3rd wave feminist policies. So before thumping your chest, check your privilege.

      1. Were you able to type all of this fairytale bullshit with a straight face? My personal favorite: “Men are rarely doctors or engineers because talent doesn’t matter and they are born as men. They are forced to go into hip-hop or sports or worse, drugs, violence or gangstas”. Suppose this is true, how come this disproportionately affects Black men, as opposed to any other group of men? So what you are proposing is that the lawmakers, who are predominantely White men, regardless of political affiliation, are changing laws to benefit trannys, gays, and women? The laws are a detriment to all men and negatively affect men and push them into hip-hop sports or a life of crime? Please feel free to correct my interpretation of your bullshit if it is incorrect. Also I’d appreciate it if you could actually cite some of these laws. You’re aware that sports, music and crime are 3 areas that have always been dominated by men, and that women have historically been pushed out of. So how is that dynamic changing? Also most transexuals are male to female by a large margin. So most of those people use to be dudes. Your post is probably one of the more fucked up nonsensical posts I’ve ever seen on a website.

      2. what the hell are you talking about????
congrats on your medical degree but tell me can you build a hospital????
if not, dont worry we’ll find some construction guys to do it, cause not everyone who doesn’t have a medical degree play ball, sell drugs or rap there are other occupations out there besides entertainment, sports or drug dealing.
p.s. when it rains please turn your nose down….(wouldn’t want you to drown)

    15. Feminists want to be treated as equals aren’t prepared t act as our equals. If Dr Dre had beaten a MAN, that MAN would’ve pressed charges won the case and he also would’ve tried to save HIS career, seeing that HE had been involved in an altercation with a MAJOR player in music at the time. He’ll he might have even changed direction in terms of career. Stop being cry babies and just handle your business like a man or should I say a woman, lol

    16. Beats By Dre…..the Irony is ironic….only punks hit women…pledge a million to each State for thier abuse shelters if you really give a damn Dre….

      1. Do you expect people protesting police brutality to donate money to pay for a grieving family’s legal fees? Or to cover a family’s lost wages or funeral costs?

      2. @Risky$mith…….thats amazing that you can so freely spend someone else money like that as if it will prove anything.
just how much of your money have you donated????
the best thing dre can do is just “do better” he owes nothing to anybody but himself.
if your looking for him to set the example of what a man is supposed to be, either you had no male role models in your life or you dont walk past any mirrors in your home.
i’d hate to think you are one of those self righteous people that holds others to perfectly flawless high standards while you sit back in judgement.
i’ve mad that mistake of hitting a woman before and had to come clean to my son about it 17 years later( the disappointment in his eyes) hurt more than anything.
i apologized to that woman and asked her forgiveness, in time she gave it to me and our son is 20 now and we remain friends . people make mistakes and people change.
dre has been married 19 years now, if he has been beating this woman he will lose it all but they appear happy…..maybe dre has changed (with the headphone name, violence against women history plus being happily married for 19 years imagine the “irony in that”

      3. He pledged Millions to a business school and used his album royalties towards a compton youth center. But yeah the nerve of these millionaires right?

    17. I swear American women are leeches!!!! I pity black men there. Once youre successful these parasitic women jump out their holes.

      1. Actually in the movie he hit 2 people in the face. Are you blind. Suge, Eazy, Cube and Ren and Yella were his friends. Why would he hit them? Dumb bitch!

      2. That was a movie. And At specific points in his career he had beef with everyone of the individuals names. Hell, he didn’t even hit Jerry Heller who was robbing him blind

    18. letter to dre,
you apologize, now continue on with your life.
no matter what you say or do you cant please everyone.

letter to michelle le, tierre b. , dee barnes,
tell your stories cause they are yours to tell…..but their will be no pity party
michelle le, you stayed with dre had his child moved on to suge and now claimng to be damaged goods. not saying he didn’t hit you but you stayed going for the fame, now we could charge it to your youth but if we do we gotta extend that to dre as well 25-30 yrs. ago.
dee barns, dre was wrong but you settled for little money and are now resurfacing to capitalize off it again for financial gains. if you wanted to bring awareness to man on woman violence you could have been that advocate years ago but i guess the timing wasn’t right? hmmmm….
tierre b. really….scared of being blackballed huh? you were signed to ruthless dre wasn’t as big he couldn’t stop your career. maybe just maybe your talent wasn’t as great as you thought.
and to everybody else…dre is talented but wrong is wrong he will answer for all he’s done as we all will. with that said god bless him and i wish him well
as for his victims…sorry it happened but dont use it as a crutch or excuse, you all had options and now gotta live with the choices u made. write your books, make your movies and do you, but remember if you live your life in the public eye (reality tv etc. ) you too will be scorned, criticised and villified for all your past transgressions. it’s the way of man good luck to you
