Noah “40” Shebib Reacts To Meek Mill’s Comments On Drake’s Ghostwriter

Drake’s longtime producer Noah “40” Shebib has now joined the chorus of those reacting to Meek Mill’s claims that Drake does not write his own lyrics. 40 has been with Drake for almost a decade now, well before So Far Gone, and has also been instrumental in the crafting of the OVO sound. In his Tweets, he references Quentin Miller, the man Meek Mill pointed to as Drake’s writer/ghostwriter and Shebib notes that Miller is explicitly credited on If Youre Reading This Its Too Late.

He also admits to working in the studio with Miller. But, while he admits to working with him, he also states that “no one is as talented as Drake.” And, that he’s worked with Toronto emcee for over 5000 hours while he’s only been in the studio with Quentin for about 30 minutes. You can read in full what he had to say below.

    1. lol Look at this dude doing damage control and trying to justify him not writing his own lyrics. This is sad and pathetic. Drake was always a nerdy little Canadian with money and talents in manipulating people, and he used those 2 things to buy himself a rap career and fame. It’s really incredible how long he kept this thing going without anyone finding out. It’s been what, 5 years? Even now people probably will over look this like it’s nothing, because they’re so brainwashed by this dude, he can do no wrong in their eyes. Oh well, I guess this is what hiphop has evolved into. I wonder how many other Drake’s are out there using writers. I’m not impressed

      1. @NotImpressed you’re my fucking Hero on this shit, you always have VALID and well thought out opinions. Divergent thinker. Keep enlightening these ignorant sheep here.

    2. No wonder drake has been on that trap music ish lately. Just listen to his lyrics lately. He is talking about cooking crack on the stove ..lol..we all know drake is a culture vulture! He basically employed dark skin talented song writers and tried to pass it off as his own cause he is more marketable because he is half white!!!! Smh

      1. Once someone starts using the culture vulture argument, that mean’s they’re losing. Gotta come up with a better excuse than that, homie. I don’t like Drake or his music, but you gotta use something better.

    3. Drake doesn’t write he signed his voice away. Drake gets paid for his voice and he is easy to promote. you can’t say you’re a rapper when you don’t come up with your own words. you can say you can read and repeat but you can’t say “I’m the one” when you’re actually 2 or 3 or 4 all in one song with no features. Drake is personal but he is also a liar. there’s 2 sides to every story so too all those fans that feel a connection or feel like they relate to drake just stop and think does he really deserve all the hype he’s created?

    4. Sorry, Noah…but I’m not buying it. Drake has been exposed and will carry this L with him for the rest of his career. Kenny and Cole are some of the only pure lyricists that we have on a mainstream level. Drake, or should i say Quentin Miller (the man responsible for writing Drake’s rhymes), can’t hold a candle to these guys. Let Drake fight his own battles lol.

      1. Lol you’re a dummy. You how many hits drake has wrote for other artists? So whats the point of a ghost writer. Any song that’s not fully his he gives them credit, hint look at his ablum booklets.

      2. @Mimi drakes whole career is a contradiction. He started out saying he was real but now he’s fake and there’s no witty lines that he can use to fend off his detractors. he’s probably asking someone right now what should he do or say. drake tried to make people feel like all they had to do was be themselves and they could be great. when in reality his money privilege and acting brought him a lot farther than just being Aubry ever could of gotten him. e_e

    5. They mad meek blew him up but fuck that keep it 100 how long has this really been going on y you’ll so mad at meek b mad at drake 4 the bs haterz

    6. @real talk,
What are you talking about..lol.. Drake is a culture vulture! He is using hip hop culture to get ahead and is not respecting hip hops basic rules. Acting wasn’t cutting it so he used hip hop and employed a bunch of dudes to be in his videos to look tuff but know it’s know all those dudes where on his payroll writing for him..lol..your argument is losing. When someone says ” I don’t like drake but” or says ” who cares everone uses ghost writers” that’s when you know it’s the beginning of the end for drake as far as being taking seriously as a rapper

      1. Remember when people thought Rick Ross was finished in ’09 or so when people found out he was a CO? Oh yeah that’s right after awhile nobody cared and kept embracing him. Point being, same thing will happen to Drake after awhile. He will let the hype calm down on this drop another number ones album after awhile and nobody will care about this.

    7. Kendrick Lamar voice ” rapper with a ghost writer what the fuck happened, oh nooo, thought I wouldn’t tell, but most y’all sharing bars like a man 2 man cell” …lol…kdot the prophet

    8. Oh please, look at these hypocritical comments. When was the last time Dr. Dre wrote anything at all or produced a track by himself? The mid-1990’s?

      1. Dr. Dre is not drake there’s a difference between Dre style of hip hop them 2 artist portray. Drake is a liar liar plants for hire

    9. Rap is what it is now confused. Dum down lyrics , a dumbed down following and a bunch of frauds. Personally whats wrong with a ghostwriter if that’s how you make your bread and it creates jobs. One the other hand a lot of rappers should start off with ” I GOT A STORY TO TELL” cause that’s just what it is spent say you doing this and you ain’t” peep j_z he rapping about shit he doing and done..(for real)

    10. This is like strike a million for Mr 6 god.. Noah has said in previous so far gone days interviews her wrote for drake… Then Drizzy freestyles off a blackberry…. Then a ghost writer even came forward suing him for not being paid (go ahead and pretend y’all don’t remember)… He’s exposed now, fully. This is the end of Mr.If your reading this I didn’t write it.

    11. “Came up, that’s all me, stayed true, that’s all me, no help, that’s all me” LOL, yeah right..

    12. 40 gets paid off drake and thts his dude so I expected nothing different* what he says doesn’t make a difference*yea it’s a written code tht you write your own raps*once exposed its wrap city*question?*if ghost writing in hip hop wasn’t a bad thing*why not let us know you have one*LoutL*we all know the answer to tht one*

    13. “No one is as talented as drake”. Yikes!!! Too far Noah, too far. The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

    14. Meek Minaj begged drag to get on his single and now he dissin him for publicity, Tweet Mill needs to get real

    15. Again, I think meek was high that day. He also said that the 2 jokes in rap, kendrick and Cole are amazing rappers.

      1. RealTalk…Fuck off. K.Dot and J.Cole are dope MCs. You probably were dresses and lipstick while listening to Young Thug.

      2. You probably think Young Thug and French Montana are good huh? Dumb ass newb. No one is spitting like J.Cole and K.Dot right now.

      3. Young Thug is trash and gay and French Montana is not a rising star, he was never a star at all. Plus, Kendrick and Cole are not jokes in rap, that goes to crossdresser Young Thug and Flop Montana.

    16. I’m pretty sure drake at least approves of the raps if he doesn’t write them himself. None of you seem to mind when Dr dre uses ghostwriters all the time.

      1. Damn no, Dr Dre is a producer not a rapper, so I’ don’t see no problems in the fact he doesn’t write his lines. When you’re a rapper that’s completely different to me. Writing skills means a lot, if you don’t write your lines as a rapper then you’re just an interpreter.

    17. Ghostwriting isn’t a new phenomenon in rap and has always been part of the game. It is something that is frowned upon in the genre because rap is rooted in freestyling, where original content comes straight from the dome. You earn your stripes or “street cred” in the rap game based on your own lyrical prowess and no “biting.” Using a ghostwriter seems unauthentic but it is part of the business.

      1. Huh? People criticize Wayne all the time for having a ghostwriter. And every hip hop head know that Jay Z forms the rhymes in his head.

      2. You’re pretty stupid, if you think Jay Z does ALL the rhymes for all his songs.

Jay Z usually has more writing credits on his songs than most kiddy pop acts but they aren’t ghostwriters because they’re credited.

    18. If your name is in the credits, then you aren’t a Ghostwriter. It has “ghost” in the word for a reason.

      1. pretty sure ghostwriters dont have to be anonymous , no matter what the definition is . if you have another writting your lyrics then you have yourself a little money slave .

    19. never has someone spoken about themselves or there own perspective so vividly… ever.

      ….

Eminem’s first 3 albums? OMG FUCK OUTTA HERE

    20. Drake is this dude’s meal ticket. He’s just gonna say whatever he has to, to keep the gravy train rolling.

    21. The problem is every body thinks people don’t have ghost writers majority of hip hop or rap artist got they people in the studio with them throwing ideas off each other how something should be said or put together sometimes even multiple bars but since nobody buys albums anymore you dont get to read who all gets credit for writing raps they tell you plan as day who wrote, performed, and produced it and a lot times more people wrote than performed

    22. Songwriting credits aren’t exclusive to vocal/lyrical contributions or material, in the big boy league, song writing credits can be notated or given out based on a variety of contributions to a particular song or musical arrangement. Example: The name Louis Resto appears on the songwriting credit board for numerous Eminem records, yet most of his contribution to the song writing process of those records was orchestral arrangements and musical accompany. Not to mention, a ghost writer is called just that for a reason aka they’ve likely already been paid a flat fee under the table, and their name would not be listed in the credits.

    23. J. Cole has ghost writers. Kendrick doesn’t have ghost writers. J. Cole and Drake aren’t as real as they say they are and we can tell nigga.

    24. He may have songs that already written when it comes to r&b songs but I do he does writes his stuff when it comes to rapping he also may take some one verse but hey they all take another’s rapper line for their songs.

    25. Top 5 producers of all-time: 1. Noah “40” Shebib 2. Boi-1da 3. DJ Premier 4. J Dilla 5. The Alchemist
