LaToiya Williams was surprised. The Los Angeles singer worked with Snoop Dogg on the rapper’s 2002 album, Paid Tha Cost To Be Da Bo$$, and was pleased to hear the direction of the song “I Believe In You.”

“He put his wife on a pedestal,” LaToiya Williams says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “He put women on a pedestal. He had me singing the hook for it. I think it just showed a side of Snoop Dogg that a lot of people don’t know or didn’t see.

“He is a real cool guy,” continues Williams, who was signed to Snoop Dogg’s Doggy Style Records and collaborated extensively with Snoop Dogg, Tha Eastsidaz and others. “He’s a real sweetheart and he really loves his wife. I’m happy for any man that puts their wives or their girlfriends on a pedestal and dedicates a song to them. It’s awesome.”

LaToiya Williams Releases “Kup Cak’n” EP Independently & Prepares “Blue Rose”

Williams, who is slated to perform in at the Hilton Palm Springs in Palm Springs, California this weekend, regularly worked with Snoop Dogg and other artists during the next decade, including her appearance on “Cold Game,” from Snoop Dogg’s 2011 album, Doggumentary.

But by 2013, Williams was no longer a DoggyStyle Records artist and released her Kup Cak’n EP independently.

“I just wanted to put something out to give my fans because I have been off the market for so long,” she says. “So I thought, let me just go and put out a couple of songs that people could go and buy off of iTunes.”

Williams said the positive response she received from the project encouraged her to form her own Blue Rose Music imprint, which will release her forthcoming Blue Rose album. The project is an autobiographical concept album about a past relationship.

Blue Rose, it starts off as we’re a happy couple,” Williams says. “We’re doing well and then in the middle of the CD, it changes. I find out that he has a wife somewhere. I find out that he has a family. That’s where the Blue Rose comes in. That’s where the sadness the color blue comes from, that pain of me finding out the guy that I’m with is actually married to someone.

Every single last song is true to life and it’s true to my life,” she adds. “Literally, this Blue Rose album is a book about me and my feelings and what I been through in the last 10 years without being signed to Snoop Dogg and the stuff I’ve gone through with my man. So, it’s all true.”

The project, which is slated to feature at least one guest appearance from a prominent rapper, was therapeutic for Williams.

“I loved it because I’ve overcome all that,” she says. “One thing about me is once I write a song about it, that means I’m done with it. No more feelings. No more hardship. No more pain. It’s gone. It is what it is. It all good. It’s beautiful. That’s why Blue Rose is perfect for this because I’m still a rose – just a little down, that’s all.”
