Pharoahe Monch and producer Marco Polo both reacted to the news.

“I’m completely devastated. RIP PH,” Pharoahe Monch wrote on Twitter today.

Today is a very shitty day,” Marco Polo wrote on Twitter. “Just got word my brother Pumpkinhead passed away at 5:40am this morning. My condolences to his family…R.I.P.”

Pumpkinhead worked with Talib Kweli, Skyzoo and others throughout his career.

He was a revered battle rapper who released the acclaimed Orange Moon Over Brooklyn album in 2005.
