During a recent appearance on CNN, Atlanta, Georgia rapper Killer Mike applauded North Little Rock, Arkansas Police Officer Tommy Norman for his involvement in the community. Before commending Officer Norman on his work in the community, Killer Mike revealed that he doesn’t want black death to be a television spectacle, and also encouraged those watching to get involved.

In regards to Officer Norman, the Southern wordsmith praised the man for getting out of his patrol car every day to interact with those in the area he patrols.

“I don’t want black death to just be a television spectacle,” Killer Mike said. “I want the white viewers on the other side of the television right now to get involved like a policeman in North Little Rock. He doesn’t know I follow him. He doesn’t know I know him, but his name is Tommy Norman. If you follow him on Instagram, @tnorman23, I believe. This man is out of his patrol car every single day. He is taking pictures with other people’s families that are black. With white kids in the community. He’s in the community. And North Little Rock is—It’s no square dance. It’s not easy place to police…I would encourage more police and more people to look at what this officer’s doing, in particular. Because he’s doing something right.”

In a separate CNN segment, Officer Norman revealed that he was unaware of the praise Killer Mike offered, but says he “was honored.” He added that the goal with his social media posts is to inspire others to make a difference.

“When I heard the news about Killer Mike I was honored…It was a big surprise…I want to inspire people,” Officer Norman said. “Not just other police officers, but people in the community. It’s a partnership between the police and the community. We have to work together to make our community a safer place, a more peaceful place to live. So, I took it to the social networking sites, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, to inspire other people to go out and make a difference in their corner of the world.”
