Although Tallahassee, Florida musician T-Pain is largely credited for helping bring autotune to the mainstream, Kanye West reportedly thanked another artist for helping popularize autotune, earlier this week.

HotNewHipHop.com reports that during an encounter with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian at this week’s Met Gala, pop singer Cher was thanked by Kanye West for helping introduce autotune with her 1998 record, “Believe.”

Cher spoke on her encounter with ‘Ye after a fan on Twitter asked about her meeting with Kim Kardashian.

“She was very Gracious.We talked about our trips to Armenia.Kanye Thanked me for Autotune.They were sweet,& seemed 2 be having fun,” Cher tweeted in response to a fan questioning her about her encounter with Kim.

Two years ago, Cher voiced her support for Kanye after the rapper’s now infamous scuffle with a photographer outside of LAX.

“DEAR KANYE,THANK U,4 TRASHING THOSE LOATHSOME PARASITES,WHO STEAL OUR MOST PRECIOUS GIFTS,”TIME & PRIVACY”WE CAN NEVER GET THOSE BACK!,” Cher tweeted on July 21, 2013.
