South Central Los Angeles rapper Jay 305 is prepping his debut album Taking All Bets and his first single off the project, “Thuggin” produced by DJ Mustard has already been making noise on the Internet.

HotNewHipHop recently profiled the California-bred-upstart on “The Come Up” series, where he spoke about his affiliation with several veteran rappers from the west side. During the seven-minute visual, Jay also reflects on signing a deal with Interscope, and rebounding from a brief stint in prison.

“I had to bounce back, so I’m here now,” he says, about being released from prison in 2014. “When I came home it was just all go. I wasn’t looking for no hand-outs, no gimme’s. OPM, that’s the clique. When I first came home my biggest placement was ‘Ghetto Tales’ with DJ Mustard, ‘Blame It On The Streets’ was after that, then the Fan of Fanshit with me, T.I., Chris Brown and Tyga.”

When Jay began to take his craft seriously, Dom Kennedy and his OPM (Other People’s Money) label was by his side. Now, Jay has enlisted Dom for his debut album, Taking All Bets, and he’s hoping for a Kendrick Lamar feature.

“‘Thuggin’ is on Taking All Bets,” Jay explains. “It is coming out on OPM and Interscope Records, and it’s gonna be that shit. You can play it for your bitch, you can play it for your homies in the hood, at the club, and you can just vibe out to it. Dom [Kennedy] is on there for sure, I got a Suga Free feature but I gotta see how the business go, you know.”

Jay may have missed out on Kendrick’sTo Pimp A Butterfly, but the two have been actively working on music together. Kendrick has apparently taken a liking to the young rapper and may even appear on Jay’s debut.

“Kendrick, I was supposed to be on the album, man [To Pimp A Butterfly],” Jay says. “I was supposed to be on that project but timing was bad. We gon’ get that done soon. You might see him on my project though, you might. You’ll catch him on something for sure, ’cause that’s my homie he really fuck with me and believe in my music.”
