With his debut album, Sidewalk Exec, released yesterday (April 14), Bodega Bamz spoke with HipHopDX recently about his own come-up and offered his thoughts on the current state of New York Hip Hop.

Citing the recent success of artists like the A$AP Mob and Flatbush Zombies, Bodega Bamz tells DX’s Ural Garret about his take on “the new New York.”

“That shit is amazing man,” Bamz says in a clip that debuted as a part of today’s DX Daily. “That shit is amazing to have the forefathers of this shit or the tastemakers and the gatekeepers that fuck with you. If you from New York you need that. You need that proper cosign from New York and New York love me because I’m New York’s child. In 2012 we came in this motherfucker, New York was in a shitty place. New York was stinking as far as talent-wise, new music-wise. The OG’s already, you know the legends, they had their time and they did their thing but niggas wanna see new faces…In 2012 came A$AP and came Flatbush Zombies, came Bodega Bamz and Action Bronson and all these other people. We put that shit back on the motherfucking map. We came from the underground and took that shit to the mainstream. Now everybody talking about New York again because you got this new crop of motherfucking artists whose killing shit and doing shit the way they wanna fucking do shit. The new New York.”
