Drake Not Slated To Receive Public Funding For OVO Fest

Last year Drake’s OVO Fest received $300,000 from the government. This year, it’ll receive nil.

According to HotNewHipHop, Celebrate Ontario, the organization that funds numerous festivals and events in Toronto, recently announced that the Canadian rapper’s annual two-day concert will not receive public funding via its exclusion on a list that will receive money from taxpayers.

The application used to acquire public support specifies that events that are awarded grant money must show an “Increase in attendance and geographic reach,” “in tourist visitation and expenditures,” and an effort to “Improve in quality and sustainability.” Apparently OVO Fest did not meet these standards.

This year’s OVO Fest is slated to begin August 2 and feature Big SeanYGJeremihJ. Cole and his Dreamville Records artists, a Kevin Hart comedy show and of course the 6 God himself.

    1. why should he take the governments money if he can continuously sell out a stadium? canada must be rich as fuck

      1. Yes and No. Canada is rich, the province of Ontario is not. And frankly, Toronto is a shitty place for Hip Hop concerts unless its big names. Toronto gets skipped constantly for Hip Hop tours.

    2. There’s a bit more to the story. Wayne threatened the mayor of canada that if he doesn’t cut off drake’s funding (wayne’s now being a real bitch), he will in his words “make life harder for canada.”

    3. that’s canada for you. the federal government doesn’t support culture. they’d rather make sure everybody gets welfare.
