Recently, Nelly performed a benefit concert for victims of ISIS violence in northern Iraq.

The St. Louis-bred artist took the stage at Iraqi Kurdistan for the show in the city of Erbil.

According to the Rwanga Foundation, who threw the benefit concert, the Country Grammar rapper is “the first American artist to perform in the city’s 8,000-year-old history.”

In addition to giving attendees a great show and helping them take their minds off their troubles, the concert helped raise money for the peshmerga, a Kurdish fighting force fighting ISIS and their biggest counter.

Along with donating money to the peshmerga, the show raised funds for “those impacted by the recent conflict in the area,” the foundation noted. Attendance at the event was estimated at 15,000.
