Christopher “Play” Martin – one-half of the Hip Hop duo Kid ‘n Play – was scheduled to speak at Full Sail University’s Winter Park, Florida campus yesterday (February 24).

Martin’s multimedia company, Brand Newz, is responsible for bringing the actor/rapper and award-winning documentarian to the entertainment-, media- and the arts-oriented school.

The company’s website states that Martin will provide insight and pearls of wisdom on successful careers in the entertainment and media industries. He was also slated to stick around to answer questions in a Q&A session with students.

“Brand Newz is focused on using the spirit and influence of the Hip Hop culture to inspire balance in the way we choose and receive our news and information,” Martin says.

“We exist because of the lack of balance in the news and our mission is to fill this void with positive energy and relevant information through the talents of young, aspiring journalists and seasoned industry professionals,” he adds. “Everyday, through inspiring storytelling, Brand Newz proves that Hip Hop Has a new direction, and I want to show these young people that they have an opportunity to be a part of an organization that refuses to view our world through a distorted, often dark, and inaccurate lens.”

His visit to Full Sail University is part of an educational tour Martin has recently embarked on.

He’s spoken at Crossroad Academy Charter School (Quincy, Florida), South Shore International College Preparatory High School (Chicago), Shaw University (Raleigh, North Carolina) and Fayetteville State University (Fayetteville, North Carolina).
