This past weekend Springfest Miami was off the chain…starting with Opium Garden‘s, Friday Ladies Night Official Springfest pre-concert launch party.
Then early saturday morning we got a chance to view real music business in action at the Radio-One Conference at the Sheraton Biscayne Bay Miami…where labels got a chance to present their new artists to Radio-One, media and industry heads alike.
Standout performances came from Virgin Records Urban, M.O.B. Records and upstart labels X-Records out of Virginia and Ohio’s SlumLord Music Group, whose artists 16 years Lil Nikki (X-Records) and Sik Da Don Sikosa (SlumLord) offered an enhanced balance to what was presented on the stage throughout the day.
Lil Nikki, who presented a well choreographed stage show with her hype man performed her single “In Da Game” was contrasted by SlumLord‘s brash and street-scarred Sikosa who ripped the set with the sure to be hit “I Hate A Hater”…Sikosa was backed by SLMG artist STR8 Caine and producer Grip.

Lil Nikki is prepared to release her debut CD, aptly titled “The Preliminaries” the album has some major production clout, as does the midwest madness CD by Sik Da Don Sikosa: 2,190 Days & STILL BREATHIN’ which has features from Bonecrusher and MC Breed…the album/s title refers to the 6 years in prison that Sik served before being released barely a year ago. The album offers a variety and diversity that hasn’t been seen in Hip Hop in a long time.
The performances were topped by a pool party at the hotel where artists and professionals got a chance to mingle and talk business…before the days festivities REALLY began.
After that Maimi’s Bayfront Park was off the chain, with performances by Fat Joe, Ciara, Faith Evans, Beenie Man, The Game, TI, Crime Mobb and many more. Then is was off to South Beach that was overrun with pimped-out after-parties and launch parties…Saturday night at the Opium was the Official Springfest Concert Afterparty hosted by P. Diddy, TI, The Game, Fat Joe, Amerie and Ciara.
We closed out sunday with Fat Joe and The Game at the club for the Opium Sunday Ritual party. Then we sorta staggered to the Mansion, for Sunday night’s Millionaires Party hosted by Jermaine Dupri, P. Diddy and TI.
