Hip Hop Pays Tribute To ESPN’s Stuart Scott

ESPN has announced that its longtime anchor, Stuart Scott, has lost his battle with cancer.

The 49-year-old North Carolina native, died Sunday morning in a Hartford-area hospital.

His Hip Hop influence was undeniable.

Scott’s signature, animated phrases: “Boo-Yah!” and “As cool as the other side of the pillow,” among others, revolutionized sportscasting at the network.

In an interview with XXL last July, Scott explained how Hip Hop music was an important part of his life.

“I like infusing [hip-hop] into what I do, because it’s part of who I am,” he said at the time. “You’ve got to be true to who you are and what you do. I’m more of a hip-hop feel person. Music is how you feel. The younger the mind, that’s how I wanna be. One of the reasons why I do my job the way I do it is because I want to let people know it does not have to be the way society says it has to be.”

Scott has also been mentioned multiple times in Rap lyrics and has even appeared in a few music videos, most notably, Luther Campbell’s “Raise the Roof” and LL Cool J’s “Shut em Down.”

Today (January 4), the Hip Hop community remembered Scott via social media. Check out their condolences below:

    1. I’m not a sports fan, but I always remember seeing this dude on TV, I didn’t know he had cancer, sad that he died so young.

    2. Stuart you will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to your daughters and the rest of your family. You are such an inspiration to others diagnosed with cancer, you portrayed to others your bravery while fighting for your life; you are an inspiration to all. It is a shame you had to leave us at such a young age, but you left a lasting impression on everyone you came into contact with. RIP
