There’s a reason why the lyrics on Azealia Banks‘ latest album, Broke With Expensive Taste, sound like “literary non-sense.”

Banks has crafted a 16-chapter accompanying fable to go along with her studio debut. The story, which bears the same name as the album, Broke With Expensive Taste, was revealed on Twitter by the social media enthusiast yesterday (December 21).

During the weekend, Banks teased a slavery-themed snippet via her Tumblr account. The excerpt belongs to the “Idle Delilah” chapter, Banks says, which is “more about Delilah and her boredom.”

There are 16 songs on Banks’ album, Broke With Expensive Taste. “Idle Delilah” is the first track. Perhaps, each of the song titles will include coinciding chapters within her upcoming book.

Check out an excerpt from the book below:

Delilah’s mother, Lilith; was a compassionate but suspicious woman. Her family was one of the most affluent southern families of the time. They were descendants of the royal crown and since their arrival in the Americas, built a fortune trading cotton, tobacco, and slaves for a living. While most madams of similar stature, were full of pride, basking in the glory of their good fortune and prosperity, Lilith remained uneasy and lived with a gnawing fear. Instead of hosting lavish tea and dinner parties to posture for other wealthy families, she kept watch over Delilah; making sure she never wandered off the porch into the fields with their Negro slaves. Lilith knew that people despised her husband just as much as they admired him.
