One of the most infamous and longstanding beefs of the 1990/2000s has finally come to an end.
LL Cool J and Canibus, who had been engaged in a feud since the late 90s, put their differences aside on stage at Hot 97’s “Christmas in Brooklyn” concert featuring LL and Run-DMC Friday night. Canibus came onto the stage during Cool J’s set as he announced the end to their beef.
“Had a lot of beefs in my life but sometimes we gotta be bigger than that, sometimes you got to take things to the next level, sometimes we gotta flip the script,” LL Cool J said. “Yo, Canibus…I love you, boy… Your career is starting again, baby.”
The beef allegedly started when Canibus somewhat took a jab at LL on his own song, “4,3,2,1.” His verse opened with the line “Yo L, Is that a mic on your arm? Let me borrow that.” LL was reportedly offended by that and asked Canibus to re-record his verse in order to remain on the song. ‘Bis would change the verse up but a subliminal diss would remain in the final version with “I’m the illest nigga alive, watch me prove it / I snatch your crown witcha head still attached to it.” LL Cool J would end up including a response to it with his own verse on the track. The single ended up having two different variations and would be the spark of numerous other separate beef tracks.

TWO OF THE NICEST NIGGAS ON THE MIC, I DIDNT EVEN KNOW THEY WERE STILL BEEFING ALL THAT CAKE COOL J IS MAKING
They weren’t still beefing, Canibus is on LL’s new album. That’s the media with all that bull
i heard an old LL interview a few weeks ago and he just kept telling to guy interviewing him to “GET THESE BALLS” over and over again, it came off as very gay and childish to me.
So these niggas were still beefing after all these years!??!!?
Did Canibus pull out the big ass notepad as usual?
hahaha. so funny.
LL got over this shit a decade ago. Canibus was still salty and throwing shots and talking about it on his last album, hopefully now he’ll finally have some closure. I love both these cats but Canibus hasn’t put out a good album since FWTBT, Lyrical Law was hit and miss and K-Rino stole the album. I don’t know if he changed teams after FWTBT but he fell off hard after that…
Did you not hear the C of Tranquility? By far Canibus’ best album.
COT was solid enough but not close to RTJ, 2000BC or Mic Club and the original version of the title track was infinitely better than the album version…
“Your career starting again?!” Haas, that was a DISS AGAIN LMMAO!!!! FOH!… 2000 BC was dope, i was done after that album… 1st album was such a flop, such a letdown.. Probably 1 of Hiphop’s biggest duds….
Ummm, no it wasn’t. No question mark. Respect to LL & Bis for squashing it. Can-I-Bus?
damn that sounds like a dis itself “you get your career back” but still it’s good to see that it is squashed
Canibus came out and nobody knew he was. How sad
canibus could spit for days, he had like 30 pages of rhymes.
hell yeah LL Low key dissed him like.. now that we are cool u can get money in this industry again. like he been extortin this niigga.. lmao LLs shiesty for that shit
That’s the first time I heard this version of the story. That part about Bis including a subliminal dis. The story I’m familiar with is that after Bis re-recorded his verse, LL rewrote his verse on the song to be a dis at Bis, and Bis never heard it until the song was finalized. Bis (understandably) took offense, and LL refused to apologize, thus the beef was born. This website has major issues getting its facts straight.
kevin your story is correct. Canibus was actually trying to homage to LL and L took it the wrong way. L went and actually rewrote his verse to diss Canibus and thus the beef was born.
This reunion is about 10 yrs too late and 11 years after Anyone really could have gave a real damn. LL slighted him w/ that comment as he walked offstage. LOL. Canibus still takes a hit. Subliminals and all.
lol “your careers i starting again baby” lol thats a diss in itself it shows that ll cool j thinks he won the war n ended it lol ….unless im wrong and he meant it in industry terms as canibus has been pushed underground alot
It’s only a diss if they don’t build together after this. Bis will probably be featured on G.O.A.T 2
