Compton, California rapper Kendrick Lamar will serve as the cover artist for XXL magazine’s Winter 2014 issue.

Unlike past cover stories, K-Dot’s cover story is one the TDE lyricist created himself. According to XXLMag.com, as part of his cover story, Kendrick “explores his experience with his extraordinary fame, the impact he has had on his fans (and vice versa), the process in which he records, his overall mind state after two years on the road,” and more.

News of Kendrick’s cover story with XXL magazine comes weeks after the fate of the publication was in limbo.

In early October, it was reported that XXL would be releasing their final print issue this year. Shortly after, XXL’s editor-in-chief, Vanessa Satten confirmed that the magazine would not be retiring its print edition.

“We are going to continue doing magazines,” Satten said while speaking with MTV News in mid-October.

XXL’s Winter 2014 issue will serve as the fourth time Kendrick has appeared on the cover of the magazine, but the first time he’s been featured on the cover by himself.

Other artists to be featured in XXL’s Winter 2014 issue include French Montana, Big Sean, YG, and E-40.
