Following the release of its debut self-titled album yesterday (December 9), PRhyme, a duo consisting of Royce Da 5’9 and DJ Premier, have announced plans to hit the road at the beginning of next year.

According to a story on Billboard, the 24-city tour, titled PRhyme: The Tour, is scheduled to begin in Baltimore, Maryland on February 18 and conclude on March 20 at SXSW in Austin, Texas.

Accompanying the announcement was an interview with Royce Da 5’9 who, among other things, spoke on the nature of PRhyme’s album.

“We don’t have any concerns, man,” Royce Da 5’9 says. “We’ve got a guy [collaborator Adrian Younge] who can create music from nothing. He’s walking around with a 24-piece orchestra in his head at all times, so we don’t have to clear samples. We’ve got one of the greatest deejays and one of the greatest beat-makers in terms of chipping up samples and sampling music. We can do whatever we want to do, whenever we want to do it. We got our own money. We don’t need a label. We don’t need anything. We basically just play it by ear, and we’re just having fun with it.”

Later in the conversation, Royce Da 5’9 discussed the work of Adrian Younge, to whom PRhyme took samples from for the project.

“He pulls from the era of 1968 to 1973, which he feels is the golden era of recording,” Royce Da 5’9 says. “It’s probably one of the most exciting things I’ve had an opportunity to work on. It’s not, like, five different producers with five different scattered sounds. It’s one cohesive sound, and it’s raw Hip Hop — beats, rhymes and scratches, content and lyrics. That’s the foundation of Hip Hop. I can’t wait to see how much more we do and how much further we go with it.”
