Ja Rule has long been known to rap about the drug life during his Hip Hop career, especially early.
In a recent interview with Vlad TV, the Queens, New York native detailed some of the craziest times in his life including what he outlined as selling dope to his friend’s family.
“Dudes that was close to us, they parents were on [drugs], sisters and brothers and we used to sell to them,” he said when asked what the craziest experience he had selling drugs. “Our motto was if they ain’t going to get it from us they going to get it from somebody else. When I look back on those times, that was some crazy shit to do–sell to your man’s moms… At the end of the day we knew the shit that we was doing wasn’t right but it was kind of a way to keep everything going. An ends to a means I guess.”
The former Murder Inc. rapper also detailed how he got into the drug-selling business. Ja Rule said is was unavoidable due to his childhood surroundings.
“I was probably about 12/13 [years old],” he described. “I had just moved out of my grandmother’s house and started living back with my mother… My mom, she wasn’t doing as well as my grandparents so we was struggling and hustling was kind of inevitable. It felt like we moved every week.
“Before [Hip Hop] we was just young dudes in the hood doing what we do, out on the streets, selling drugs, whatever.” “[We were] just trying to make some money and be successful in life. Those are the first successful figures you see when you come from the hood.”
