Mac Miller Explains Why He Signed To Warner Bros.

Mac Miller signed a $10 million deal with Warner Bros. Records back in late October and since, the REMember Music rapper has been quiet on the topic.

Recently sitting down with The FADER, the Pittsburgh native broke that silence and explained why he took the deal and what a major label can offer him versus being independent.

“I don’t want to exist solely on the Internet. I think what it was for me was [it was] time to take the next step and experience what that’s like and what it is and what’s going to happen. Doing it on the independent level and taking it as far as we did is amazing… I think it just makes sense for where I’m at right now [and] where I could possibly go.”

Mac also explained how he will be able to retain his creative control, something that has always been important to him and his fans.

“I’m trying to not let [the deal] factor in,” he said. “I’ve held on and been independent and done my own thing long enough that they trust me and are going to let me make what I want to make. I think that the second I let that affect the creation, it’s horrible.”

Mac Miller released his Faces mixtape independently earlier this year. He will now release his own music as well as “sign and develop new artists” through REMember/Warner Bros. according to his new deal.

    1. This h0nkey best shut the fuck up, he’s just a guest in the house of hiphop.

(secretly i want to suck his jewish peepee and say “yes massa” as i begin to munch on his ginger carpet)

    2. This hypocrite was talking about the benefits of being independent. Then he goes major. What a hypocrite and a sellout.

      1. He built up a big enough brand and equity to get a legit deal and have creative control. That’s not selling out. He has the freedom to do way more now and sign artists under his own sub label. Pretty hard to be independent and sign artists out of your own pocket. Don’t be dumb.

    3. SAD….. Sold Out, juast wanted to ‘cash out’…. TOO SONED, gotten LAZY! TECH N9NE & the real INDIE hustlas gonna SMOKE his azz in the Industry! INDIE POWER!

      1. hes like 22 already on the forbes list making as much as rick ross and them, by the time hes 40 like tech he could be a zillionaire

    4. He could possibly become what Dre, Eminem, 50 cent are. They have a great team and Mac Miller sells. His product is dope just not the delivery i vibe to.

    5. I find it hard to believe he’s talking about being an “internet rapper” when he’s had several songs that played on every radio station across the country. At this point he’s beyond internet…he was just looking for that $$$$

      1. yea man he said it. record labels still have a tight grip on radio play. its one of their biggest bargaining chips

    6. Why haven’t you reviewed thestand4rd’s new LP? I’m just saying, the production was handled by Don McKinney (House of Balloons), and it has some extremely well-structured songs. You’d get a kick out of it.

    7. Ugh…, fuck this stupid ass kkkracka culture bandit and that goes for all of you culture bandits douchebags- STAY THE FUCK OUT OF MY CULTURE, IT’S NOT YOURS BITCH!
