In an interview with DJBooth, North Carolina-born producer 9th Wonder spoke about getting discovered by Masta Ace in the early days of the Internet.

“Masta Ace was listening, at my brokest times he was listening,” 9th Wonder says. “A lot of people like to credit Jay Z for putting me on to everybody, but they don’t really factor in the Masta Ace component and they should because he was the one. I was working with Little Brother and the Justice League at the time, but you’re not really proven until you work with somebody outside of your team. Masta Ace was the one that said, ‘I like this kid.’”

9th Wonder, who recently detailed a post-A3C festival police encounter, gave the sit down interview as part of the A3C Pro Audio Conversations series
