New York Knicks player Iman Shumpert has addressed his issue with radio hosts Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy on wax with the release of his diss record, “#HowToHate.”
The Oak Park, Illinois-born athlete spoke exclusively with TMZ about the song and why he chose to release it. According to Shumpert, he got tired of both Charlamagne and Envy taking “shots at people in the public eye” and then brushing off their comments behind the scenes.
He added that the two The Breakfast Club hosts made statements that were “detrimental” to his brand.

“I feel that when cameras are rolling Charlamagne and Envy will say anything for ratings and then behind the scenes will try and whisper that it’s just a job and they don’t mean any harm,” Iman Shumpert said. “But they stated some things on the radio that I felt were detrimental to my brand so I will defend my brand…I wrote the song because people think they can take shots at people in the public eye and that the celeb will take the high road. Well this song is letting everyone know that even though I’m a celeb I’m a real person that likes to have a solid understanding of respect in any relationship that I have with another person.”
On “#HowToHate,” Shumpert declares that he “don’t do the fake shit” as he raps: “Tell Charlamagne when he see me better holla at me, hater / Envy betta holla at me / Cause I don’t do the fake shit / I bet they listen when they name in it.”
Towards the end of the song he informs the two radio personalities that he’s not looking for problems, but will solve them.

“We ain’t looking for problems, but I’m down to solve ‘em. I do it the old-fashioned way,” Shumpert raps.

UPDATE: Charlamagne has since fired back at Shumpert, calling the Knicks player a “wack rapper” and suggesting that he focus on his offense and defense, according to TMZ.

“I think Iman Shumpert just needs to be somewhere focusing on his offense and defense,” Charlamagne said. “And not be so defensive and take so much offense when I criticize his rap skills…His girlfriend, Teyana Taylor, who is a good friend of mine, I told her the other day, maybe two days ago that I thought he was a wack rapper. And she put me in a headlock. So, I guess she went back and told him. So, he decided to record a diss record.”
