green-label.com has compiled “The Most Important Southern Hip Hop Albums Ever,” a list highlighting work from artists from notable Southern cities, including Atlanta, New Orleans and Houston.

One of the albums to open doors for the South was OutKast’s debut, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, an introduction to the work of Big Boi and Andre Benjamin.

“Using their music as a means of advocating personal responsibility, ‘Git Up, Git Out’ served as a wake up call for the shiftless that also notably signaled the arrival of Goodie Mob,” the piece says.
