Green-Label.com has named “The 15 Best New York Anthems,” a list that highlights Rap’s general obsession with the five boroughs.

Jay Z and Nas were comparably more polished, but what they shared in common with the Wu-Tang Clan was the humblest of starts in New York’s housing projects and a hunger to succeed in music.

“Having no shortage of talent on their roster, ‘Protect Ya Neck’ was their initial breakthrough posse cut as members including Raekwon, RZA and Method Man made their presence loud and clear,” the list says of the Wu-Tang Clan’s “Protect Ya Neck.”

Other examples of anthems to define New York include the rage of Public Enemy’s “Rebel Without A Pause” and the tough bravado behind Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones (Part II).”
