Although Miami, Florida rapper Rick Ross has never cracked the top ten when it concerns Forbes’ annual Hip Hop Cash Kings list, the Maybach Music Group founder says he’s “always top five” in his mind.
Ross sat down to speak with Forbes at his Wingstop location in Brooklyn, New York to comment on his standing on the list of Hip Hop heavyweights.
“I’m always top five. That’s in my mind,” Ross said in a video posted on AllHipHop.com. “That’s me saying ‘My bad.’ You know what I’m saying? But the beauty of the Forbes list is it excites the streets. It gives people somewhat an idea of what’s going on financially. It inspires the youngsters. And hopefully, the others. But myself, I’m up there.”
After being informed that artists who break into the top five bracket on Forbes’ Hip Hop Cash Kings list easily bring in double-digit millions every year, Ross was asked about only performing at 18 shows in the past 52 weeks and if he brings in money from private events.

He responded by stating that he was only offering his guess when it concerned his ranking on the list.
“I’m just giving you my guess,” he said. “I don’t got no facts. I don’t got no facts for you. I’m just giving you my guess. It just feels good to be—Regardless of where I fall it feels good to be associated with success. Associated with a brand such as Forbes. And the other artists that’s on the list…I got a lot of things going on. I’m pretty sure I’ll be alright and up there [really] soon.”
Artists who have consistently secured top five positioning on Forbes’ Hip Hop Cash Kings list are Puff Daddy, Jay Z, and Dr. Dre. Last year, Rick Ross made it to #20 on the list and the year before he was higher up at #12.
