Nas sent birthday wishes to late friend and singer Amy Winehouse.
“Happy Birthday Amy Winehouse!!!” Nas wrote on Twitter yesterday (September 14).
Both Nas and Winehouse were born September 14. Nas turned 41 yesterday, while Winehouse would have turned 31. She died of alcohol poisoning July 23, 2011.
Okayplayer reports that a statue was unveiled today (September 15) to commemorate the achievements and impact of the Grammy-nominated singer. Commissioned by her father, Mitch, the statue was unveiled in the Camden neighborhood of London.

The singer was a big lover of Hip Hop and, at the age of 10, Winehouse formed a rap group with her friend called “Sweet-N-Sour,” inspired by the Queens, New York female rap trio Salt-N-Pepa.
Nas and Winehouse later became friends, and the rapper has spoken on the bittersweetness of working with her before she passed. Winehouse sampled Nas’ “Made You Look” on her 2003 song “My Bed.” She also talks about her crush on Nas on her 2006 cut “Me & Mr Jones.” The singer was also posthumously featured on “Cherry Wine,” a cut from Nas’ 2012 album, Life Is Good.
