R&B singer Houston, whose album It’s Already Written went gold with the hit single “I Like That” featuring Chingy and Nate Dogg, attempted to take his own life on Thursday.
The singer attempted to jump out of a 13th floor hotel window but his attempt was thwarted by his security personnel. After being moved to a lower floor and locked in his room he then attempted to injure himself by gouging his eye out.
The singer was overseas for a small tour when the incident occurred.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Houston during this tragic time,” a Capitol Records spokesperson said.

LA radio station KKBT-FM’s K-Sly said the singer had been under psychiatric care last year for manic depression while other sources close to Houston say that he struggled with PCP.
“I was told he wanted to commit suicide and stabbed his eye out,” K-Sly, who is close to the Houston camp and appeared in the “I Like That” video said. “He was telling people he was Jesus and wanted to go home to his Father.”
Bushwick Bill of the Geto Boys, who also attempted suicide with the forced help of his girlfriend back in 1991 and left him shot in the eye, spoke out about the issue “Fame will make you crazy,” Bill said in a statement. “Fame isn’t for everybody. There are people who have a fear of fame, those who want fame, and those who don’t understand fame. It drives them crazy, because it is a lot of responsibility to be all things to all people, and you can lose yourself in the shuffle, where there are no longer 52 cards in the deck.”
Houston is reportedly in stable condition in Los Angeles.
