Kanye West’s Samples Detailed By The Verge

Much of Kanye West’s production contains samples and The Verge has complied a list of “A listenable history of Kanye West’s samples.”

The story goes through West’s The College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, 808s & Heartbreak, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Yeezus and highlights the sample and /or samples used to make each cut.

For The College Dropout’s “We Don’t Care,” for instance, “A listenable history of Kanye West’s samples” says, “Listen back to back and try to tell which song you’re starting.” The song samples The Jimmy Castor Bunch’s “I Just Wanna Stop.”

The list also includes opinions on the samples and how they have been used. “This is not he attitude Natalie Cole had in mind,” The Verge says of Late Registration selection “Wake Up Mr. West.” A sample of Natalie Cole’s “Someone That I Used To Love” is used on the cut.
