Summer’s official music festival season will come to an end on Labor Day weekend at the fifth-annual North Coast Music Festival at Chicago’s Union Park. North Coast is a festival most noted for showcasing Electronic Music, but the festival has a history of giving props to Hip Hop; past performers at the North Coast Festival include Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Common, Big Boi, Wiz Khalifa, Lupe Fiasco, Jay Electronica and De La Soul among others.

This year’s festival is headlined by Long Beach, California product Snoop Dogg. Snoop is currently in the studio working on the release of his thirteenth solo album, which is to be produced by Pharrell Williams. Another headliner for the three-day event is Cleveland rapper Kid Cudi. Cudi released his fourth album, Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon, February 25, 2014. The project was his first release since leaving Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music label.

Other Rap acts performing at the 2014 North Coast Festival include Action Bronson, Talib Kweli, Riff Raff and Hilltop Hoods. Festival organizers also shine a spotlight on local talent, with acts such as Alex Wiley, ProbCause, Saba, and Altered Tapes slated to perform.

“North Coast was born five years ago after we noticed that our respective audiences we’re into all different kinds of music and we saw these styles merging,” said Pat Grumley of North Coast Music Festival partner React Presents. “The genres meant nothing, our fans just wanted to come out and have fun with their friends and soon-to-be friends. Since then, we’ve always made sure to have at least one Hip Hop headliner, with Wu-Tang Clan, Common, Kid Cudi, Nas, Mac Miller, Big Boi and many more.”

The fifth-annual North Coast Music Festival is slated to take place August 29-31 at Union Park in Chicago.

Tickets are available at NorthCoastFestival.com.
