Born and bred in Hip Hop Queen Latifah has become a Renaissance woman of sorts. From her powerful music to her remarkable work in front of the camera, Queen Latifah has become more than your average hip-hop artist. Now, 12 years after she was awarded a Grammy in 1994 for Best Rap Solo Performance for her single “U.N.I.T.Y.” from her 1993 album, Black Reign, she returns not only as a nominee but as the host of the 47th annual Grammy Awards.
This year she will not only host but also perform at the event. She is up for Best Jazz Vocal Album for her collection of classic soul, blues
and pop songs, The Dana Owens Album.
“Queen Latifah is an extraordinary Renaissance artist with unparalleled style and substance, and her passion, talent and personality make her an excellent choice as host for our show,” Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy, said in a statement.
The 47th annual Grammy Awards will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
