Singer R. Kelly’s 13-year-old child Jay came out as being a transgender individual earlier this month via social media but since, Jay’s father been silent on the matter.
Recently sitting down with Chicago’s WGCI 107.5, Kells broke his silence about his family.
“You don’t really want to open it up by saying my daughter is becoming my son,” R. Kelly said. “You gotta know there’s a back story. There’s a background. That’s why you can’t judge nobody.”
When asked about reports via “the blogs” about Jay becoming a male, Kelly said not to trust them and only “believe what you see.”

“Don’t even give the blogs that kind of credit. You know what I’m saying? Real talk,” he said. “As far as that is concerned, always believe what you see with your own eyes that is. Always believe what you see. That is the best way to go about this business… I’ve heard a lot of things about a lot of people and it was never true.”
Jay has not been as shy about expressing his gender status. Born Jaya, Jay recently took to Instagram to reveal what he looks like as a teenage boy. Also, in a Ask.fm Q&A session, Jay said he’s identified as being a boy since he was “six or seven” years old and is eager to undergo gender reassignment surgery.
TMZ recently reported R. Kelly’s ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, believed her ex-husband hasn’t been as accepting of their transgender child, saying he still refers to Jay as his daughter.
