Insane Clown Posse says that its fans did not initially approve of its Insane Clown Posse Theater television show

“A lot of people are like, ‘You’ve sold out. Your show is on Fuse’ and all,” Shaggy 2 Dope says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “It’s like, we’re comfortable doing anything in the world as long as we don’t have to change what we do. If MTV was like, ‘Alright. We want you guys to come to our awards, but we don’t want you guys to wear that. You gotta do this.’ We’d be like, ‘Fuck you. We ain’t doing that.’ If they were like, ‘Just come down and do you,’ then we’d do that all day. We don’t have to change our shit for nobody because we are comfortable with the position that we are in. So, not doing something because they want to do it their way ain’t nothing to us. If they want to invite us into their world as we are, then we’re all for it. If they want us to change anything about us, to be in their world, they can fuck off. It’s as simple as that.”

Thus, ICP did not sell out. The Michigan duo has a specific definition for the term.

“Selling out is changing your shit up,” Shaggy 2 Dope says, “like, let’s say like, fucking Flo Rida, fuckin’ Pitbull. That’s the epitome of selling out. It’s just changing your shit to this Euro techno shit because you’re going to get paid internationally and not do no gangster shit no more because there’s more money coming the other way. That’s selling out. If they had been at the height of success doing what they do when they first started out, then that’s not selling out no way. Like Waka Flocka [Flame], in my opinion he ain’t no sell out because he’s always been doing that crazy trap shit. He still does that, doing shows in Paris doing that ‘Hard In Da Paint’ shit.  That ain’t no sellout in my opinion.”

Moving forward, the next season of Insane Clown Posse Theater will likely have some new wrinkles.

“Obviously you have to keep it new and fresh, you can’t just do the same thing over and over without it getting played out,” Shaggy 2 Dope says. “We talked about doing different things like maybe doing some skits. When we first started they had us critiquing art, different things. We were driving around in Amish country in a buggy just critiquing Amish people shit. For me doing the video is the hands down the funnest because there’s just too much shit out there to say about shit. Especially when there’s the corny shit that people like for some reason because it’s programmed to like it.”

Beyond its television show, ICP has also developed and sustained one of rap’s major, most successful festivals with its Gathering of the Juggalos. The fifteenth-annual edition of the Gathering is slated for July 23-27 at Legend Valley, a 120-acre, privately owned and fenced-in outdoor music venue in Thornville, Ohio. Tech N9ne, Da Mafia 6ix, Cypress Hill, Dizzy Wright, Hopsin, Yelawolf, Ces Cru and Madchild are among the acts slated to perform at the event.
