Thirty years to life is what a Brooklyn man was sentenced to for his connection to the attempted robbery of Freaky Zeeky (a member of The Diplomats) and the murder of his friend. Chauncey Dillon was sentenced last week for the attempted robbery of Freaky Zeeky (also known as Ezekiel Jiles) as he sat in his Jeep Cherokee at 2:30 am on April 24, 2003. Zeeky’s truck was hit from behind and after a discussing the accident between everyone in the vehicles, the conversation turned into an argument and guns were drawn.

In the end Freaky Zeeky was shot and his friend Eric Mangrum died. With the help of a surveillance camera on a nearby apartment building, Dillon’s participation became clear. “It’s a dreadful, horrible crime”, the Manhattan State Supreme Court Justice Bonnie Wittner said, “aggravated by the fact that it’s a shooting in the middle of a middle of Manhattan street, a residential neighborhood with guns fired all over the place”. Two other men are awaiting trial for their alleged involvement in the incident while the police look for another person they say was also involved.
