During a recent interview with Larry King, Tyler, The Creator was asked if he no longer wants to be a rapper.

“I don’t,” he says. “I don’t. I just want to compose music…”

Tyler elaborates on the matter. “I’m talented enough to do other things,” he says. “But, I don’t know. I’m pretty bored with it. It’s not interesting.

“In the future, I want to do films,” he adds. “I want people to mention my name next to Wes Anderson or Quentin Tarantino. I don’t want to be…I don’t want my name mentioned next to other rappers at all.”

Tyler, The Creator Discusses Isaac Hayers & Barry White Influence

Tyler, The Creator has other plans for his music, as well.

“I really want to sing,” he says, “but my tone of voice is too deep to do what I want. Now I’m just listening to Isaac Hayes and Barry White and things like that to see how they use their voice. But I hate rapping only because it puts you in this box. Like, I was scared of this interview. Me being a rapper, I was scared of the type of questions that you would probably ask me, not even on purpose, but just because I’m a rapper. And then people look at you different. ‘Oh, he’s a rapper. That doesn’t take much talent.'”
