Following 2 Chainz’s profanity-filled rant against Funkmaster Flex at a concert last month, the New York City deejay was asked to respond to 2 Chainz’s remarks, during an interview with Complex. According to Flex, he wasn’t bothered by the Atlanta rapper’s comments and credited 2 Chainz for being able to freestyle on a platform that has already welcomed “the greats” of Hip Hop.
He added that he still has love for the Southern lyricist, who proclaimed that he “don’t give a fuck what Funkmaster Flex gotta say about this nigga from Atlanta,” and says that maybe 2 Chainz can provide a better freestyle later down the road.
“I thought it was cool. I get it,” Funkmaster Flex said. “You know what I mean? I think when people freestyle to me on my show that’s already top tier. So, if you’re asking [for] the worst freestyle in comparison to the greats that was the one for me. You know, maybe if he came a second, third time he’ll give a great freestyle. It was just that day. But I love him. You know what I mean? Artists get into a funny place sometime, but I love him.”

It was during an appearance on ESPN2’s “Highly Questionable” when Flex revealed that 2 Chainz was the artist with the worst freestyle on his radio show.
Funkmaster Flex also addressed his ban against Trinidad James following comments the Atlanta emcee made about New York rappers. He went on to question why someone he considers a “swag rapper” would criticize artists who are far more lyrical.
“I like what he’s about. I think Trinidad is a swag rapper. So, to hear him comment on lyrical people or a lyrical state like New York I was like…you know,” Flex said.

With a career at Hot 97 that spans decades, Funkmaster Flex was asked to share the names of the most memorable records he’s introduced. Among the records he named were Wu-Tang Clan’s “C.R.E.A.M.” and Jay Z and Kanye West’s “Otis.”
“I got memorable things in my mind. Like ‘C.R.E.A.M,’ Wu-Tang. ‘Hate Me Now,’ Nas. [Some] of the Biggie stuff, ‘Flava In Ya Ear’ with Craig Mack. ‘Otis,’ Jay Z and Kanye. ‘In Da Club,’ 50 Cent. Those are like my favorites,” he said. “Those are the ones I remember the most.”
