Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna were among the night’s big winners at the first-ever iHeartRadio Music Awards yesterday (May 1).
Pharrell, who also performed a medley at the event, was the recipient of iHeart Radio’s innovator award. Beyonce, Shakira, Usher and others spoke about Pharrell’s work in video messages. “He was the person who made it cool to just be you,” Beyonce said in a clip. “You gotta believe in something bigger than yourself,” Pharrell said when he received the award. “I never dreamt in a million years as a producer that I would be standing here as an artist.”
Kendrick Lamar also performed at the event. The Compton, California emcee performed the Dr. Dre and Tupac cut “California Love” at the Los Angeles event.
