Violence unfortunately will become the highlight (or lowlight) of the 2nd annual VIBE awards in Los Angeles. The melee resulted in a temporary stoppage of the event.
Details remain hazy but reportedly Dr. Dre was supposed to receive the VIBE Legend Award from Quincy Jones and Snoop Dogg but before he could take to the stage the fight erupted. At some point in the evening Suge Knight took to the stage and said “F^ck the G-Unit” and proceeded to insult others in attendance as well. Other reports say Dr. Dre was sucker punched and even Knight or a member of the G-Unit was stabbed (which has since been denounced).
A photographer at the event caught a photo of the melee with an audience member tossing a chair as Snoop and Quincy looked on. The show was halted but was able to continue after things were sorted out.
The show was taped Monday and is still expected to be broadcast on Tuesday. R&B singer Usher led the second annual awards with five nominations, followed by Alicia Keys, who has four nominations.
