At an event celebrating Roc-A-Fella’s 10th anniversary, CEO Damon Dash addressed rumors including his conflict with Jay-Z and the Future of the Roc. Journalist Jason King questioned Dash onstage shortly after a performance by Rell and a presentation of Kanye West’s “Through the Wire” video. Dash quickly denied any tension between Jay and himself. “Jay and myself are grown men, and thorough,” said Dash. “These petty things they say that we argue about make us less of what we are,” Dash said.
Dash also commented on the recent beef between Jigga and R. Kelly by defending his longtime friend and son’s godfather. “Jay’s a smart guy. I don’t think Jay would do anything stupid and that’s really just because I know him,” Dash said. Dash continued through the night promoting everything from the Roc Box, Pro Keds, Samantha Ronson, and his fashion magazine called America.
Dash also spoke on the direction of Roc-A-Fella Records since of Jay-Z’s “retirement.” “Jay-Z’s been retiring since Reasonable Doubt,” Dash joked. “He just dropped a record last week [Unfinished Business].” Dash continued to push artists such as Beanie Sigel, Cam’ron, Noreaga, M.O.P and Young Gunz who are among the 27 acts signed to the Roc.
