Tyler, the Creator On “EarlWolf” Album: “I Don’t Want To Do It Anymore”

Answering a question from a fan on his spring.me account, Odd Future cofounder Tyler, the Creator described wanting to scrap his planned joint album with Earl Sweatshirt.

Asked about a Twitter post in which he shared that a full-length EarlWolf album was unlikely to be released, Tyler confirmed the news and explained his loss of interest in the project. “I’m serious,” he wrote. “I don’t want to do it anymore and to be honest it will never live up to the expectations of people that really want it. Not that that really matters, but I’m not in the mindframe to do a whole album of that shit.

“I don’t want to do it,” he continued. “Maybe one day when I don’t want to make clothing and furniture and gay ass fruity music about lakes and shit, I’ll get back around to hard hitting raps, but the way things are looking, it’s only gonna get worse until I turn full fag.” Tyler’s full statement is available below.

Last year, shortly after releasing Doris, Earl Sweatshirt told NME that the collaboration was incomplete but still planned. “We’ll do the record when we’re ready to sit down for a month and a half and do it in one,” he said. “It’d be shitty if it was spread out. That’s how I want to do shit from now on; that’s what I learned from doing Doris. Trying to piece shit together that’s hella spread out kinda sucks. You hit a lot more walls trying to make it sync.”

Earlier this month, Tyler, the Creator was arrested for allegedly inciting a riot at a SXSW festival performance. The rapper was released shortly after on a $25,000 bond on March 15.

    1. “…a full faggot.” sooo…. he’s in the closet?? I mean I could have told you this nigga gay, with his attention seeking antics and very questionable content, wow I used to like this dude, but he def fell the fuck off into the deep end #NoHomoShit

      1. Highly likely…considering my GTA area code, the fact that I speak English, and my slander of american fear culture. Great observation Keisha.

    2. he scrapped it cause it obviously wasn’t good. it’d just be another odd future album full of the same weirdo raps and bizzaro beats. theyre starting to lose their flare. Odd Future = HIM or CKY

    3. I’m a huge fan of the “Wolf” album, super dope. Honestly I didn’t like anything before that album or any Odd Future shit. Why? Because I’m 33 and everything before that was so immature which brings me to my point. Tyler is growing up and that shit is getting old. I wouldn’t be surprised if Odd Future dismantles in another 2 years. Tyler has a great ear for music he’s a genius. And “Treehome” on the wolf album showed you the direction he’s heading in.

      1. I’ll check it out. And I don’t want to come off like his past albums didn’t have moments of flare or sparks of genius but overall “Wolf” was his best album to date.

      2. I’m 33 too Mr. Tibbs but I like Odd Future’s current work and the early stuff equally. You say everything before “Wolf” was immature but they were pretty young when they first started to do music. What would you expect High School kids to rap about?

      3. My point exactly Newman, I can’t relate to high school shit. “Wolf” isn’t the same sound as the past projects. I graduated H.S. in 98. Lol.

    4. Good news. Doing a full length project with Tyler would be a waste for Earl. He needs to do a solo album and an album with Vince Staples. After hearing him on Pinata I wouldn’t mind seeing him do a Madlib project either. There’s tons of shit I’d rather see than earlwolf.

      1. You really think Madlib would do an album with Earl? You trippin son, Madlib is incredibly picky about who he works with and he doesn’t just do joint projects like that. Look at his track record: Doom, Dilla, Gibbs… Didn’t you read the interviews about how many people have tried to work with him and he just wasn’t feeling the chemistry? There’s no way Earl could get on that list without a half dozen more albums and a few more stripes on his belt

      1. Ever see that scene in KIDS where that thug gets dropped with a skateboard then gets the living shit kicked out him by like 20 heads? Cause thats prolly what would happen if you tried to roll on Haley ya buster

    5. What he is referring too is the homophobic direction the music is taking fags like young thug Tyler see where hip hop is going an he aint feeling the direction I damn sure aint feeling it too you gotta make wack music to make it IM WAITING FOR KENDRICK LAMAR ALBUM HURRY PLZZZ!!!!

      1. RZA rip off? You clearly have no idea about production. If he’s biting anyone’s style it’s Pharrell/The Neptune’s. Stop trying to sound cool.

      2. He just wanted to foolishly compare Odd Future to thee Wu-Tang Clan like a dipshit. But yeah you’re right about the Neptunes biting

    6. I feel like he isn’t a top 4 artist in odd future. I like earl, vince, domo, and frank way better than him. I think odd future should focus more on those artist and maybe have him on a couple of features.

    7. If he doesn’t come out with a new album soon I will die of disappointment. I will forever love Earl and I can’t wait to hear some new stuff.
