Is Jay-Z the next president of Def Jam? It seems as if that long time rumor could have more truth to it than people have realized. According to the Associated Press Def Jam is very close to sealing a deal with Jay-Z to bring him on as president of the company. Negotiations have not been finalized but it is said that a deal could be done within the next few weeks.
If Jay-Z becomes president, he will take over a position formerly occupied by Kevin Liles, who had been with the company for years and now holds an executive VP position at Warner Music Group. Jay-Z, Kareem Burke and Damon Dash are in separate talks to sell their jointly founded label Roc-A-Fella Records to Universal Music Group. Retiring from the rap game after releasing “The Black Album”, Jay-Z surprised hip-hop heads when he announced that he would hit the road with R. Kelly on “The Best of Both Worlds” tour. The duo re-released their album “The Best of Both Worlds: Unfinished Business” on October 26th to support the tour.
