Fashawn, who appeared on stage with Nas during the Mass Appeal SXSW showcase Saturday (March 15), says that was the first time he met the Illmatic emcee.

“Me and Nas were supposed to meet on a few occasions, but it never happened due to scheduling conflicts between the both us,” Fashawn says in an exclusive statement to HipHopDX. “He decided to fly me out to [Austin,] Texas for SXSW so we [could] finally meet…I didn’t even plan on attending SXSW this year, but I got a personal invite from one of the greatest of all time. I would’ve been a fool to refuse that plane ticket.”

This was a significant moment for Fashawn, who released his debut studio album Boy Meets World, in 2009.

“I got to share the stage with one of the most influential artist of our time,” Fashawn says. “It was an honor to share the stage with The Don and even more of an honor to [hear him] say that he is a fan of what I do.”

Fashawn says Nas’ praise has not “sunk in just yet,” but adds that it is a sign of more to come.

“This is kind of a new beginning for me,” Fashawn says. “Simply just a glimpse of what’s to come for my career. Me and the big homie have a lot of things brewing for 2014 and beyond. I couldn’t have asked for a better MC to stand next to. It’s not even even fair what we’re about to do to Hip Hop from this point on.”

“Expect the return of Rap in its purest form,” Fashawn says. “Expect an album music listeners and Hip Hop fans have been waiting to hear for a long time. I put my all into this project. I can say that The Ecology is going to be something special. My 2014 just got that much more interesting.”

In an article published March 13, Fashawn spoke about his upcoming album, The Ecology

“All I know is that I am excited for the world to hear it and I am very proud of what was created,” Fash said at the time. “Glad to be working with Exile again as well. His skills have only progressed since the last album and so have mine.”
